The payroll department plays a crucial role by ensuring employees are paid correctly, as well as ensuring taxes and social security payments and other social obligations are met.The role requires a customer-service oriented mindset as well as agility in both running the payroll and participating in important change projects to ready our payroll systems for the future.What is the role?
As Payroll & Data Quality Advisor you are required to:

  • Understand relevant legislation / policy developments.
  • Collect, calculate and enter data in order to maintain and update payroll information
  • Ensure that payroll issues of employees and other data or IT related issues are resolved timely and accurately.
  • Ensure on time processing of the scheduled payroll runs, including payments to employees and 3rd parties, reconciliation of data and correct reporting.
  • Resolve payroll discrepancies
  • Maintain payroll operations by following policies and procedures
  • Develop ad-hoc financial and operational reporting as needed
  • Provide required data for statutory and tax annual reporting and the related audits
  • Establish strong working relationship with colleagues in country and HR Operations to ensure the team can effectively partner when required
  • Knowledge of the functional requirements of Shell People, Triton and Workday, responsible for testing and sign off on new functionality prior to them being moved to production.
  • Responsible for testing and sign off on the SAP bundles and HR Service packs
  • For the 2 above mentioned points, the responsibility spreads over 2 legal entities (Belgian Shell and Shell Catalysts & Technologies Belgium)

Participate as functional expert in Time & Absence Workday implementation projects and Future of Payroll projectThis role requires a profound knowledge and understanding of the different Collective Labour Agreements (CLA) of both entities and their respective sectors, which are subject to change every 2 years.
A sound knowledge of the different worker types (management, operational employees, shift workers, full continuous workers, blue collar workers) is required to ensure correct decisions around implementation and testing of new functionalities.
As data is exchanged on a daily basis between Workday, Shell People and the system of the 3rd party payroll provider, a good functional knowledge is required of the interfaces and data flows. Building a good network within local IT (SOM) and 3rd party IT (SD Worx) is required to jointly tackle timely any technical and data related issues. It requires an assertive attitude, analytical capabilities and an end-to-end view of the process.Dimensions
This role will be a part of the Country HR BeLux team and reports to the Country HR Manager BE/LUX.

  • Shell in Belgium:

300 staff

  • 2 legal entities (Belgian Shell & Shell C&T)
  • 3 payroll areas (BA, BE and BF) (incl. blue collar workers, full continuous and shift workers)
  • 3 sectors (with own CLA’s)
  • External payroll providers: i.e. gross-net calculations + tax payments (social secretary): SD Worx

Skills & Requirements
As Payroll & Data Quality Advisor you gain valuable experience throughout your assignment. The skills that would be valued to be an effective Payroll & Data Quality Advisor are outlined below:

  • Fluency in Dutch, French and English is a must
  • Bachelor degree with significant experience in Finance, payroll and/or HR department.
  • Proven experience with social legislation (BE/Lux) or high interest to learn is mandatory.
  • Analytical problem solver with eye for detail but also an end-to-end process overview.
  • Thorough knowledge of main HR management software (preferably SAP – HR module in Shell People and Workday).
  • Substantial experience in reporting (Workday – SAP – Excel)
  • Service minded and analytic.
  • Proven experience in working with Service Center
