Legal Services handles a very diverse and complex range of legal and information governance matters. .Main Responsibilities:

  • Providing paralegal assistance to the Legal Services Team.
  • Provide excellent service to the Legal Services Team and colleagues across the University when responding to any external request for advice.
  • Provide full support for the acceptance/acknowledgement of all incoming requests for advice.
  • Maintain and monitor systems to progress and chase information or requests to ensure resolution in a timely and legally compliant manner.
  • Maintain a calendar and record of training and arrange training events as appropriate;
  • Provide support for the development and maintenance of corporate information and governance records.
  • Undertake key aspects of the Legal Services Team administration, including but not limited to: maintaining case management systems, training records and information logs.
  • Plan, manage and prioritise own workload to ensure that deadlines (which includes statutory deadlines) are met, anticipating problems with achievement of objectives and either seeking help or resolving issues in a timely manner.
  • Play a full part in the Legal Services Team, maintaining knowledge of the work done by others and assisting and / or providing cover for them where necessary
  • Managing communications with external parties (such as regulators, enquirers) as required.

Key Requirements:

  • Education to first degree level is desirable.
  • A high level of literacy and numeracy
  • Excellent IT skills including advanced knowledge of web based solution, word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software packages, preferably Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Proficiency and experience of the Data Protection Act 1998 and or the Freedom of Information Act 2000 is helpful
  • Experience of providing high quality customer service in a complex environment.
  • Experience of maintaining governance or other complex records accurately.
  • Experience of working successfully as part of a team.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and in appropriate language with third parties, students and colleagues both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to understand and explain complex regulations to third parties, students and colleagues.
  • Ability to manage own time and workload.
  • Ability to work to statutory deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to support, guide and inform as necessary.
