Job Title: Packaging Technician

Location: Port Sunlight Research Lab

JOB PURPOSE

The Unilever Personal Care category covers world class brands such as Dove, Lynx, Radox, Lux and Rexona amongst many others. The European skin cleansing business is a key part of this category and is technically supported by an expert team located in the Port Sunlight R&D centre in the UK. This role is focused on packaging development and offers an excellent opportunity for the right candidate to direct a passion for science into delivering data and knowledge to support new product innovation, cost savings activities, plastic reduction etc. This can be a fast-paced and exciting work environment and offers an excellent opportunity to learn from the best.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Within this role the Packaging Technician will:

• Support a team of packaging experts to deliver test data for all relevant packaging types. These tests may look at functionality, safety and stability of e.g. bottles, caps, pouches, pumps, labels, cartons etc.

• Conduct laboratory testing according to set procedures. Collate the data and report results in a variety of ways.

• Create and validate new testing methods for new pack uses and/or to improve efficiency.

• Be closely involved in the safe and efficient running of a packaging testing Laboratory, over time becoming an expert with specific test equipment.

• Create technical specifications for all packaging components (Bottles, caps, cartons, labels, pouches etc.)

• Develop and test secondary packaging and pallet plans

• Create their own work plan and deliver to agreed timings to a high quality.

ALL ABOUT YOU

• Bachelor/HBO degree or equivalent in a science (ideally packaging or material science). However, a candidate with directly related on-the-job experience will also be considered.

• Show a strong ability to gather, collate and analyse data in a clear and quick manner. Experience working with relevant software will be a key part of this.

• Excellent English skills, both spoken and written with a track-record of working in multi-disciplinary, multi-cultural teams.

• Ability to communicate quickly and pragmatically, never being shy to share comments, questions and ideas to deliver quickly and accurately.

• Ability to work well both independently and as part of a wider cross-functional team.

• Excellent presentation skills with an ability to summarise in a clear and engaging way.

• Flexibility in work style and being able to manage a portfolio a range of tasks in parallel.

• Problem solving skills and a curiosity to deliver continuous improvement.
