OTL Arts Coordinator (Performing Arts K-12) 1.0 FTE

Position Summary

Provide leadership and technical expertise for K-12 Performing Arts programs, including curriculum, instruction, community partnerships, and professional development. 

Reporting Relationship

Report to the High School Curriculum Supervisor, in the Office of Teaching and Learning. 

Responsibilities 

The essential job functions include, but are not limited to, the following fundamental duties: 

  • Coordinate a comprehensive performing arts curriculum which supports students, teachers and schools throughout the district. 
  • Collaborate with content specialists to develop systems and materials for performing arts teachers, students, and classrooms throughout the school district.
  • Collaborate and create integrations consistently and openly with Visual Arts coordinator in terms of community partnerships, strategic planning, and shared resources.
  • Coordinate and collaborate district wide performing arts events such as the Annual Honors Concert and Arts Pathway Choir Festival
  • Plan, implement and maintain departmental activities and procedures for curricular planning, student records, budget, resources, program data collection and reporting. 
  • Support communication by varied methods to teachers and principals regarding the progress and opportunities of arts curriculum and activities. 
  • Assist instructional staff with developing and sharing resources; and encourage teacher leaders within steering committees and other leadership opportunities
  • Maintain records of, and provide information to, licensed staff on various performing arts programs; assist licensed staff with completing grant reporting tasks and communications efforts.
  • Manage and support teacher use of the Destiny Instrument Inventory system in order to keep accurate instrument inventory data.
  • When requested, participate in school decision making and activities which contribute to the effective operation of the school. 
  • Build awareness for arts opportunities and programs. 
  • Lead and participate in district arts professional learning communities (PLC) and professional development activities to continuously improve knowledge, skills and services.
  • Lead and support new teachers through the Educator Support Pathway (ESP)
  • Promote a positive, nurturing learning environment within district arts educator groups and classrooms
  • Participate in staff meetings and provide input in the instructional and emotional/behavioral/social issues centering on serving arts programming, teachers, and students
  • Collaborate with other district departments such as Communications, the Business Office, Print Copy Center and Translations, as well as others.
  • Create measurable evaluation for tasks to ensure successful outcomes. 
  • Be a visionary for the performing arts in SPPS by attending conferences and arts leadership forums in order to support the continued development of relevant performing arts opportunities for students across the district.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 

  • Knowledge of community resources available to assist students and their families with resolving academic achievement and/or behavioral problems. 
  • Knowledge of and ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with community and arts organizations. 
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written. 
  • Ability to effectively maintain and analyze electronic data. 
  • Ability to attend training and integrate techniques to develop sustainable training to program 
  • Ability to effectively utilize behavior management skills. 
  • Ability to work effectively as a member and leader of a team. 
  • Ability to interact effectively with students, parents, representatives of outside agencies and other district staff of diverse cultural, ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds. 

Minimum Qualifications 

¿ Master¿s Degree or higher 

¿ Valid teaching license K-12 issued by the Minnesota Department of Education. 

¿ Three (3) or more years of successful teaching

¿ Experience coordinating and working with arts programs and curriculum.
