Optimization of High-Efficiency Bifacial Photovoltaic Cells M/F
Offer DescriptionThis work is part of the Horizon Europe Hi-BITS project (“High Efficiency Bifacial Thin Film Chalcogenide Solar Cells”), which aims to introduce breakthroughs in the design and fabrication of Cu(In,Ga)Se₂ (CIGS)-based solar cells. The primary objective is to replace the standard molybdenum (Mo) back contact with innovative back contacts that are passivating and/or nanostructured, offering transparency and/or reflectivity. This ambitious approach targets a conversion efficiency of 25%. The postdoctoral researcher will play a key role in developing and optimizing these novel back contacts. He/She will also focus on optimizing the deposition of ultrathin CIGS absorbers tailored to the properties of these innovative contacts. The expected outcomes of this project will contribute to the advancement of cutting-edge photovoltaic solutions for various applications, including building-integrated photovoltaics, flexible and lightweight photovoltaics, and agrivoltaics. In this context, the postdoctoral researcher will be involved in all stages of fabrication, from the development of back contacts, nano-structuring (via nano-imprinting), and CIGS deposition to the complete fabrication of solar cells. The layers and devices produced will be analyzed using standard physico-chemical and optoelectronic techniques (XRD, Raman, SEM, IV, EQE, etc.) as well as advanced methods, such as steady-state and time-resolved photoluminescence and cathodoluminescence. Additionally, optical and transport simulation tools developed within the team (OptiPV) will be utilized to design the cells and interpret experimental results. This study is part of the Horizon Europe Hi-BITS project (“High Efficiency Bifacial Thin Film Chalcogenide Solar Cells”). The work will be carried out jointly at IPVF (UMR 9006) ( ) and C2N (UMR 9001), located at the heart of the new Paris-Saclay campus, south of Paris.
