Our team’s primary mission is to develop sophisticated market forecasting models and asset optimisation tools. These tools are instrumental in supporting EDF Trading’s proprietary activities and optimising the EDF Group portfolio. The team efforts are directed towards both the short-term electricity markets as well as the longer-term horizon and other commodities. We work closely with the trading desks and other analyst teams in both locations, fostering a collaborative environment that drives our success.
Position purposeFundamentals (wind, solar, load, etc.) are key drivers influencing prices in the Pan-European intraday electricity market.The main objective of the internship is to contribute to the improvement of both forecasting intraday price and having an accurate probabilistic view of that forecast, within EDFT’s intraday forecasting model.The internship will initially focus on analysing and understanding our existing platform. Following a comprehensive market analysis, the intern will adapt the probabilistic model to enhance its representation of uncertainty. During this phase, the intern will collaborate closely with team members, proposing advanced probabilistic methods to improve the current framework.The second part of the internship will focus on implementing, testing and validating these new approaches with the help of the intern’s supervisor in EDFT forecasting framework on specific market areas. Once results are validated and implemented, the intern will present the work to power trading desks and contribute to the deployment of the solution in production.This is a great opportunity to work on a model used by one of the largest power trading firms in Europe.Main responsibilitiesExplore and propose new methods to improve forecasting intraday electricity price and associated uncertainty.Ensure implementation in the existing python model to prepare deployment in production.Analyse results and present them to EDFT power desks.Person specifications and professional requirementsDemonstrated skills in probability, statisticsStrong analytical skillsInterest in energy marketsCoding skills in PythonGood communication skillsDuration:6 months, starting April or May 2024Hours of work:35 hours/week, Monday to Friday Paris
