Join our dynamic Developer Enablement domain at Mollie as an Observability Engineer, where you’ll play a pivotal role in enhancing our monitoring systems, ensuring operational excellence across our platforms. Our mission is to provide deep insights into our services’ health, enabling engineers to diagnose issues, and optimising platform usage to deliver an unparalleled service experience to our customers.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Develop and maintain our observability tools and platforms, focusing on high-quality, scalable solutions.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to integrate observability practices into the development lifecycle, enhancing system transparency and reliability.
  • Lead the creation and adoption of standardised observability frameworks to ensure consistency and efficiency across the organisation.
  • Design, implement, and refine data pipelines that collect, aggregate, and normalise telemetry data from diverse sources.
  • Advocate for best practices in code instrumentation, ensuring high-quality data collection for insightful monitoring and analysis.
  • Contribute to the development of a comprehensive service inventory, tracking changes and impacts to guide operational decisions.
  • Engage in continuous learning and sharing of knowledge within the team, promoting a culture of innovation and excellence in observability.

What you’ll bring:

  • Have a solid background in software engineering, with a specific passion for observability and monitoring of distributed systems.
  • Experience with at least one major cloud-based provider (Bonus points: Google Cloud)
  • Experience in tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, Datadog, and Sentry, and development practices using Kubernetes, Helm, Docker, Terraform.
  • Know your way around Linux systems and the shell
  • Demonstrated experience in developing or adopting libraries for seamless integration with observability tools.
  • Good coding skills in languages relevant to our stack (e.g., PHP, Java, Python, Go).
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with a creative approach to tackling complex challenges.
  • Outstanding communication and collaboration skills, comfortable working in a hybrid work environment to foster team synergy and influence without authority.
  • Bonus: Prior experience with Data Analytics and Data Pipelines to collect and derive insights from observability data.
