VN 24/52 New Mission Data Processing System Engineer (2 posts)

The Data Processing team is composed of very skilled and talented people that are dealing with the latest technologies (current and future state of the art) applicable for data processing systems in space activities. Duties
  • Lead and coordinate system engineering activities for EUMETSAT’s Payload Data Processing system (PDP) during its whole lifecycle (requirements, design, integration, validation and finally maintenance and support to operations) in collaboration with cross-functional internal teams.
  • Support the re-engineering of EUMETSAT legacy data processing systems to bring them to the new paradigm of multi-missions solutions.
  • Identify optimisation opportunities and promote innovation within the engineering team, by staying up-to-date with the latest industry trends and emerging technologies aiming to improve the efficiency and the effectiveness of EUMETSAT ground segments.
  • Management of industrial contracts through SLAs and KPIs, including technical coordination with external maintenance service providers.
  • Support your managers and colleagues in proposing long-term plans and roadmaps to harmonise Data Processing Systems engineering, maintenance and evolutions across all satellite systems exploited by EUMETSAT.

QUALIFICATIONS

A university degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Software or Systems Engineering or other relevant discipline.

LANGUAGES

Candidates must be able to work effectively in English and have some knowledge of French.

Duties

Skills and Experience
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in engineering of Data Processing Systems following well established processes, covering the full development lifecycle and using relevant technical standards (e.g. ECSS, CCSDS, OGC);
  • Competence in the area of Data Processing Systems Verification &Validation (V&V) activities;
  • Ability to manage complex tasks with minimum supervision, including planning and prioritisation of activities, monitoring and reporting;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with proven ability to apply these to a team environment while working within a matrix structure;
  • Experience in the management of industrial contracts in relevant area will be considered an advantage.

Employment Conditions

The initial contract will be of 4 years’ duration, with subsequent 5 year contracts being awarded thereafter, subject to individual performance and organisation requirements. There is no limit to the amount of follow-up contracts a staff member can receive up to the EUMETSAT retirement age of 63 and there are certainly opportunities to establish a long career perspective at EUMETSAT.
This post is graded A2/A4 on the EUMETSAT salary scales. The minimum basic salary for this post is EURO 7,146.98 per month (net of internal tax but excluding pension contribution and insurances) which may be negotiable on the basis of skills and experience. The salary scale provides for increments on the anniversary of taking up employment, and scales are reviewed by the EUMETSAT Council with effect from 1 January each year.
