MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowship hosting offer – Synthesis and characterization of novel 2D materials by means of scanning probe microscopies

Company:

Job description

is seeking a postdoctoral researcher interested in developing a collaborative project to apply to the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Postdoctoral Fellowship (PF) Call 2024 (call deadline 11 September 2024). The Nanoscale Imaging of 2D Materials group specializes in the growth of 2D materials and the detailed characterization of quantum material surfaces utilizing low-temperature scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy (LT-STM/STS).Research theme(s) proposedThis project aims to synthesize monolayers or few-layers of transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) on specific substrates, followed by atomic-scale characterization of their structural and electronic properties. TMDs are layered compound with a stoichiometry of MX2, where M is a transition metal element (groups IV-X) and X is a chalcogen element (mainly S, Se or Te). They are considered promising materials with a wide range of applications, partly owing to their phase-dependent properties. Our focus lies in synthesizing and manipulating TMD phases to create high-quality heterophase structures with tailored properties. Leveraging advanced synthesis techniques and precise growth control, we aim to engineer TMD films with desired characteristics. Additionally, we will characterize these materials in-situ by means of scanning tunnelling microscopy to comprehensively understand their behavior and potential applications. We seek motivated candidates with a background in condensed matter physics and experience in ultra-high vacuum and cryogenics to join our research team.Get in touchInterested and eligible researchers (see Eligibility Criteria – should get in touch by sending the following documents to Manuela Garnica ( ) (please include in cc):– An updated CV (full list of publications)– A Research Proposal summary (max. 2 pages)Please send the above documents as early as possible – IMDEA Nanociencia will provide outstanding candidates with academic and administrative support for their proposal development.Share this page
