MSCA PF 2024 EoI-Energy-autonomous smart sensors for the Internet of Things
The current Expression of Interest is intended for searching post-doctoral candidates with interest in applying for a MSCA-2024 Postdoctoral Fellowships call ( at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC, Barcelona) as Host Institution.Potential candidates must comply with the following eligibility criteria:
DESCRIPTION OF THE HOST ORGANIZATION AND RESEARCH GROUPThe UPC is a public institution of research and higher education in the fields of engineering, architecture, sciences and technology, and one of the leading technical universities in Europe according to international rankings (Shanghai, QS). Since 2013 the UPC has endorsed the European Commission’s European Charter and Code for Researchers. In the context of the Human Resources Strategy for Researchers (HRS4R), which supports the Charter, the UPC obtained (in July 2017) an official acknowledgment for HR Excellence in Research and was granted the certified logo of the programme by the European Commission. The Instrumentation, Sensors and Interfaces (ISI) group ( , ) is located at the Castelldefels School of Telecommunications and Aerospace Engineering ( ) within the Campus del Baix Llobregat Campus ( ) and belongs to the Department of Electronic Engineering ( ) of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya ( ). The Campus is within the Parc Mediterrani de la Tecnologia ( ), where there are some renowned research institutes (ICFO, CTTC and CIMNE), a DroneLab and an ESA Business Incubation Centre. The ISI group is formed by 1 technician and 9 academic staff members and its expertise encompasses precision instrumentation systems, electromagnetic compatibility, sensors systems (in particular capacitive sensors and their interfaces), new electronic interfaces and energy harvesting and power management techniques for autonomous sensors, with application to different areas, mainly: e-health and disabled people, agrotechnology, smart buildings and Industry 4.0.
Over the coming decade, billions of wireless sensors are expected to be installed through technological ecosystems such as the internet of things (IoT). Considering such a huge number, their power supply has become a technological challenge The aim of the proposed research project is the research and design of energy-autonomous (bateryless) smart sensors with application to the Internet of Things (IoT), and in particular to the above-mentioned areas. The focus is put on low-power and low-cost microcontroller-based circuits and on new techniques and methods for harvesting energy from the environment (optical/solar, mechanical, thermal, radiofrequency), areas where the group has a wide experience. How to apply?Interested candidates should send their CV and a motivation letter through the EURAXESS portal/contact e-mail provided.Contact: Prof. Manel GasullaShare this page Barcelona
