Offer DescriptionChiral Molecular Electronics: Helicenes-Functionalized Surfaces for Spin SelectivityIn the framework of the ANR-funded CHIRELECMOL project, we propose to design and prepare new families of organometallic helicenes (i) to create self-assembled monolayers on (semi)conducting surfaces and (ii) for electrode modifications in order to reach new chiral electronic devices. The CISS effects will be measured for the first time in Rennes, by using a diversity of techniques, i.e. either known ones (classical cyclic voltammetry) or new ones (Scanning Electrochemical Microscopy, SECM) and at IEMN in Lille through magnetic Conducting-Probe Atomic Force Microscopy. Introduction of photochromic units will enable to perform modulation of CISS effects through light irradiation. An ad hoc consortium mainly localized within the same institute in Rennes, in Lille and in Marseille together with external collaborators (theoretical support) have been established to achieve all these goals.
In that context, the postdoctoral research will consist in preparing high-quality chiral monolayers on various surfaces, i.e. metallic (Au, Au/Ni) or semiconducting ones (hydrogenated silicon Si-H), by using different surface chemistry reactions. Such functional surfaces will be then thoroughly studied by using different surface characterization techniques, such as XPS, AFM, FTIR spectroscopy and SEM/TEM microscopies, all available at the Rennes university campus. Electrochemical measurements, such as cyclic voltammetry and SECM, in the absence or under a magnetic field, will be carried out to highlight the CISS effects.The Institute of Chemical Sciences of Rennes (ISCR-UMR6226) is a Joint Research Unit associating the CNRS, the University of Rennes, the ENSCR and the INSA. This institute results from the merging of all the academic forces in chemistry on the site of Rennes. It brings together more than 290 permanent staff with a total of nearly 500 people in 8 teams. The researcher will be recruited in the MaCSE team and will work under the supervision of Bruno Fabre.
