Medical Science Liaison for Respiratory Diseases – South-East of Austria (parts of Vienna, southern part of Lower Austria (NÖ), Burgenland, Steiermark, Kärnten, Osttirol)

Objective of the position:

The Medical Science Liaison is a scientific expert in the field (80% field time) with a specific focus on engaging in high-level scientific exchange, on building and maintaining peer-to peer relationship with external experts, on understanding and uncovering unmet medical needs, and on generating relevant insights. Next to that the Medical Science Liaison helps the cross-functional team in the Therapeutic Area to ensure that they optimally contribute to their specific task.

Main tasks

  • Works in a cross-functional brand team as a medical-scientific expert in the therapeutic area
  • Helps develop the medical product strategy and its implementation within the framework of the brand plan, based amongst others upon the customer insights you gather in the field
  • Builds and maintains peer level relationship with key external experts (70-80% field time) to support understanding of the Austrian market & clinical dynamics and to engage with the medical / scientific community in a highly credible, balanced, and objective manner, representing AstraZeneca’s dedication to and excellence in science
  • Works closely with Regulatory, Market Access, Diagnostics, and Marketing and other functions on field related medical issues and helps support the therapeutic area compounds during the entire lifecycle.
  • Supports the local, regional, and global AstraZeneca clinical research program and externally sponsored research projects
  • Helps create meaningful real-world evidence data generation projects in collaboration with the brand team across the lifecycle of the brands in the therapeutic area
  • Provides medical-scientific input on our sales promotion and other activities, including their implementation and potentially the material used
  • Helps set up and provides medical-scientific training and further education in the therapeutic area for the sales force and other AZ personnel
  • Organizes and executes scientific events such as symposia, other educational initiatives for healthcare professionals
  • Organizes and participates in (regional) advisory board meetings
  • Builds and maintains expertise in the therapeutic area by continuous education and by participation in national and international congresses and AstraZeneca events
  • Supports the Medical Governance-Team (Medical Information / Patient Safety) in handling of external medical and scientific requests
  • Ensures compliance with all local regulatory requirements and AstraZeneca Local and Global Policies and Guidelines

Your profile:

  • University degree in Medicine, Natural Sciences or Pharmacy
  • Well-founded medical expertise in oncology
  • Professional experience of working in the pharmaceutical industry, preferentially as MSL or within Medical Affairs or experience within Clinical research is a plus
  • High-level scientific knowledge and ability to analyze and process clinical and scientific data for different target groups
  • Excellent presentation skills (both virtual and F2F)
  • Very good knowledge of spoken and written German and English
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including communicating complex technical, scientific, or medical information to broad audience types
