The Agency aims to foster the contribution of the energy sector to economic development and environmental sustainability.The IEA seeks a Media Relations Assistant to support the IEA’s media relations outreach, engagement and monitoring, and to assist with the IEA’s broader communications activities. The assistant will report to the Media Relations Coordinator in the Communications and Digital Office (CDO) in Paris. CDO is responsible for the IEA’s public communications, press relations and online presence. The team’s goals are to raise awareness of the IEA’s activities, data, analysis and policy recommendations, and help the public and global media gain a better understanding of major energy issues and the IEA’s leadership role on clean energy transitions and energy security.Job DescriptionMain ResponsibilitiesMedia relations

  • Support the media relations team by serving as a point of contact – on phone and email – for global media and press inquiries.
  • Respond in a timely manner to general requests that come to the press office, including requests for information on data, analysis, news and events, and interviews.
  • Help draft written materials for external distribution, such as media advisories, media responses, press lines, media kits, fact sheets and other public material for IEA analysis, events and other activities.
  • Support efforts to maintain and strengthen the IEA’s relations with local and international media, particularly in emerging and developing economies
  • Co-ordinate press interviews with IEA experts, finding the most qualified expert for the topic and setting up interview logistics and details.
  • Ensure the IEA media database is up-to-date and journalists receive news releases and publications.
  • Co-ordinate visits by journalists and film crews to the IEA.
  • Support the organisation and coordination of press events and handle logistics of press conferences.
  • Undertake administrative tasks as required by the media relations managers, such as producing media coverage reports, keeping track of media coverage of high-level events among other activities, and building targeted outreach lists.

Assess impact and reach

  • Produce the daily press review, selecting articles that are relevant to the work of the IEA.
  • Develop new tools to measure the impact, effectiveness and visibility of the IEA’s communications efforts, and offer recommendations on how to expand the IEA’s global reach.

Support internal communications

  • Maintain calendar with upcoming media events.
  • Co-ordinate launches, other media events with other CDO colleagues and IEA teams.

QualificationsIdeal Candidate ProfileAcademic Background:

  • Post-secondary education or university degree in a relevant area such as communications, journalism, economics or political science.

Professional Background:

  • Confirmed journalistic or press relations experience (press/media secretary or assistant), preferably within an international environment or in a public affairs or media environment.
  • Some substantive background in the energy or environment field is preferred.
  • Good knowledge and experience using web tools and social media is required.

Languages

  • Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English; working knowledge of French would be an advantage.

Salary Information

  • Salary and conditions will depend on the experience of the selected candidate as well as on her/his status (temporary staff or official).
  • For temporary staff, T2 salary starts at EUR 2,670.
