The research group on Wireless Implantable and Wearable Intelligent Biosensor Devices at the Microelectronics Institute of Sevilla (IMSE) welcomes active postdoctoral researchers to apply for MSCA PF, to work in the topic “Artificial Intelligence for Brain Assistance”.Research TopicThe research aims to provide enabling microelectronic solutions for the integration and miniaturization of a smart implantable neural interface for the treatment and monitoring of brain disorders such as epilepsy or Parkinson’s disease, as well as the implementation of Brain Machine Interfaces (BMIs). The interface will implement a reliable and efficient Artificial Intelligence (AI) driven closed-loop mechanism which, based on the electrical activity recorded from genetically encoded cells, provides an efficient and non-harmful actuation by optical means. This real-time feedback procedure will support the adaptability of the system to the plasticity of the neural tissue, thereby opening doors for the implementation of robust, long-lifetime neural prostheses that self-adjust to the patient’s progress. To enhance the selectivity and detection accuracy of the closed-loop system, AI paradigms will be explored to achieve an optimal balance between efficiency and hardware cost.The envisioned neural interface will include ultra-low noise readout sensors, optogenetic actuators, a hardware-friendly AI-based bio-processor, as well as power management and data telemetry circuits. Therefore, applicants should demonstrate a solid background in analog, digital, and/or mixed-signal integrated circuits, a good command of EDA tools (particularly Cadence), and a thorough understanding of machine learning techniques for event prediction (specifically for abnormal neural activity or motor intention detection).

What We ExpectCandidates for the Post-doc position are expected to have a PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, with a proven track record of conducting high-quality research (at least two publications in Solid-State and/or Biomedical Circuits conferences and journals such as ISSCC, VLSI Symposium, CICC, JSSC, TBioCAS, JETCAS, and TCAS-I/II).Candidates for the PhD position are expected to have an MSc in Electrical Engineering or related fields, excellent research skills and analytical abilities, fluency in English (spoken and written), and proactive communication skills.
