This Manufacturing Engineer will perform technical activities leading to new or improved products or processes that have significant impact on the company. This position is mostly responsible to contribute to New Product Introduction (NPI) and Current product Engineering (CPE) by creating assembly processes, assembly line design, BOM structure design, line labour balancing, quality and first pass yield metrics, and other related activities. This role will take the lead on continuous improvement initiatives providing direction, communication, and ownership. Responsibilities include representing the SAF business at Change Control Board meetings.

This role is based in our Stratasys Nottingham office.

What you will be doing:

Manufacturing Engineering for New Product Introductions & Current product Engineering

  • Interfaces with design (mechanical and electrical), process, test, reliability supply chain, sourcing, and logistics teams to solve production problem issues and identify improvements in product design and manufacturability

  • Interface with suppliers, sourcing, and design teams for development of standards, processes, and instrumentation (SPI) and qualify external production materials

  • Develops and sustains process improvements to reduce production costs and increase yields

  • Makes recommendations for changes in the selection and application of components, materials, and systems. May propose changes in design or formulation to improve system and/or process reliability

  • Drives Field Change Orders (FCOs) and Engineering Change Orders (ECOs).

  • Creates, reviews, and updates assembly and work procedures to ensure standardization and in documented to meet specifications

  • May lead work with other teams on process improvement initiatives

  • Will drive communication, understanding, and ownership as it relates to process improvements and requirements for new product introduction

  • Identify testing opportunities to ensure higher line productivity and higher yield due to a greater ability to meet product requirements.

  • Provide feedback regarding BOM structure including manufacturing requirements for strategic assembly design

  • Ability to analyze prototype and production data to develop root cause, understand process control limits and out of control processes, determine and understand failure modes

  • Develop process improvement fixtures using CAD and ability to then qualify the fixture itself showing process cycle time improvements or cost savings

  • Ability to develop production line setups for new products and platforms and build in improvements over the course of the project. This does include the analysis of the CapEx requirements and then submission of CapEx projects for approval

  • Represents SAF business at Change Control Board meetings.

Continuous Improvement Manufacturing Engineering

  • Develops, implements and reviews methods, operation sequence and processes in the manufacture, components, sub-assemblies and final assemblies or extrusion

  • Makes recommendations for tooling and process improvements existing product lines to increase efficiency and reduce costs. Maintains records and reporting systems for coordination of manufacturing operations

  • Guide and mentor Junior engineering and operations employees regarding technical information, manufacturing processes, and manufacturing requirements

Must have for this role:

  • 5+ years of experience in a technology hardware/electrical/software-based production environment

  • 5+yrs experience with the use of SolidWorks (or equivalent) and its use to create assembly jigs, fixtures, and related manufacturing aids.

Nice to have:

  • Master’s Degree

  • Statistical analysis, quantitative and analytical problem-solving ability

  • Travel required:25% or less
