How can we make the future traffic system more efficient and sustainable? We would like to investigate the real-time train rescheduling and rerouting problem under disruption in a large-scale railway network. To meet the real-time requirement, a natural concept is to decompose the problem into small subproblems and solve these subproblems in a distributed manner. While the state-of-the-art distributed optimization approaches primarily focus on the rescheduling of trains, we are interested in exploring whether the rerouting option can also be incorporated to further reduce the total delay of the trains.

• Contribute to excellent applied research in autonomous systems, control and robotics

• Advance academic results for use in commercially relevant applications.

• Study new methods and approaches in distributed optimization and their integration to automation.

Use your skills to move the world forward.

• Currently you are studying in your Master’s mathematics, control engineering, computer science or related field of study

• You have experience with mathematical modelling, optimization and mixed integer programming

• Another requirement is a solid knowledge of modern software design and development in Python or C/C++ You have excellent German or English skills

Duration of the internship is based on university regulations.
