Job DescriptionThe departmentThe Mechatronics, Thermal & Dynamics Engineering team is one of the Competence & Technology departments of TEM Solutions, the Research and Development organization for Transmission Electron Microscopes (TEM). This group is committed to develop breakthrough technologies, modules and software that enable us to deliver innovative TEM microscopes for our demanding markets and customers.With the ongoing developments in physics and industry the requirements for performance of these TEM microscopes are continuously growing. Aligning well with the Advanced Technology Department and several strategic collaboration partners, in our TEM Solutions department we are striving to convert the most promising technological concepts into real products – with the purpose to enable our customers to make the world cleaner, healthier and safer!How will you contribute?As a Manager of the Mechatronics team, you are managing a team of ~20 motivated team members. The competence team consists of engineers that are specialized in control systems designs for e.g. specimen handling in or around our TEM’s, as well as engineers specializing in thermal and dynamical control and modeling. You will be in the lead for the strategy on how to develop the competences within your team to support the execution of the product roadmaps. You lead the relationships with our strategic development partners in this area on behalf of the TEM Solutions R&D department. All team members will be reporting directly to you. The team is based across Eindhoven (The Netherlands), Brno (Czech Republic), and Korea and consist of regular employees as well as contractors.The position

  • Leadership of the global Mechatronics/Thermal/Dynamics Engineering team.
  • Taking ownership for development of the team’s competences, and in alignment with the other TEM Solutions departments. This includes responsibilities for goal settings, performance evaluations, attracting new talent, organization of trainings.
  • Providing effort estimations and team member allocations to staff the project portfolio’s that are requesting support from the team. Securing the quality of the output of the team.
  • Recognizing opportunities for improvements within the team or on the collaborations with other competence teams, or in the processes that are used. Driving towards implementation of those suggested improvements.
  • Development and maintenance of the technology roadmap for TEM systems and modules that are relevant to the domain, as well as securing the commonality across the various portfolios.
  • Frequent and productive interactions with project leads and program managers and peers, on matters between functional areas, other company divisions or units, or customers and the company.
  • Connecting with industrial partners, knowledge centers and/or universities on the development of new concepts or modules to support our product roadmap.

QualificationsWe encourage candidates with strong conceptual thinking skills that enjoy working in a multi-disciplinary, highly technical environment where personal development and team collaboration are key to success.

  • A university degree (MSc or PhD) in Mechatronics/Mechanical/Systems/Electrical Engineering or related field is required.
  • Typically requires project management experience with at least 2-3 cycles of hardware and software development activities from design/requirements to sustaining phase. Typically requires demonstrated experience in people management.
  • Ability to lead a team at the technical level and across technical fields (mechatronics, electrical, mechanical, systems and software engineering) towards delivering a new system. Advanced knowledge on a broad area of Electron Microscopy related technologies is preferred, but relevant experience in other highly complex industries will be considered.
  • Knowledge of the Design for Six Sigma methodology (or other first time right and quantified development approach) is strongly preferred.
  • Excellent skills in persuading, inspiring, developing and motivating are required in the interaction with other people.
