Job description

Offer DescriptionOne of the central keystones of the digital transformation of society is the Internet of Things (IoT) paradigm. However recent focus has turned to the energy consumption of these billions of IoT sensor nodes. In order for the realization of a ‘Green IoT’, low-power sensor nodes are essential, to extend node lifetime, reduce carbon footprint and reduce costs. Spintronics is an emerging technology which has been demonstrated for several key functionalities associated with wireless sensor networks, including sensing, energy harvesting, communication, memories and novel processing paradigms.
In the EU project SWAN-on-chip (coord. Alex Jenkins, INL, Braga, Portugal) which will be the frame for this postdoc position, we aim at developing a spintronics wireless autonomous node (SWAN) for low-power edge computing. In the frame of this project, at the CNRS-Thales lab, our objective will be to develop spintronic based IoT nodes [1,2] for wireless power transfer and benchmark them in the real world. For this purpose, the postdoc will participate to the development, the integration and the test of integrated spintronic circuits based on spin-torque nano-oscillators [3-5].An important goal will be optimize the coupling between ambient microwave signals and spintronic receivers/harvesters both based on a better control of the involved physical mechanisms and on improved design of the devices[2]. These activities will be done in strong collaborations with others academic and industrial partners of SWAN-on-chip project. The postdoc will also participate to our current efforts towards the integration of microwave spintronic and magnonic devices into functional devices.

The postdoctoral project will take place mainly at the Laboratoire Albert Fert CNRS, Thales, Univ. Paris-Saclay à Palaiseau, France. This work is funded under the EU project SWAN-on-Chip for which meetings every 6 months are organized with other partners.Where to apply WebsiteRequirementsResearch Field Physics Education Level PhD or equivalentLanguages FRENCH Level BasicResearch Field Physics Years of Research Experience 1 – 4Additional InformationEligibility criteria– Microwave Engineering and/or Condensed Matter Physicist (required)
