This work is a partnership between The Pentland Centre for Sustainability in Business and Energy Lancaster Institute for the Contemporary Arts (LICA). The Pentland Centre for Sustainability in Business is a research centre delivering stimulating research on sustainability in business. Our mission is to deliver world-class transdisciplinary research and undertake engagement to support and advance, the mainstreaming of social and environmental sustainability, into purposeful business strategy and performance.Energy Lancaster brings together Lancaster University’s world-leading expertise in a wide range of energy-related areas covering demand, supply and storage, as well as their environmental and societal impacts. LICA delivers research and teaching in fields of contemporary art and design; including in the subject areas of Fine Art, Theatre, Design, and Film studies.Lancaster University has an ambitious target to become Net Zero by 2030 – to make this possible there has been investment in heating infrastructure on campus as well as a solar array. To support the University’s ambition, and to enable learning about operational sustainability-in-business, this role will design a model of the LU campus, and produce a 3D-printed model of the campus energy infrastructure, to enable the University to convey the significance of these arrangements to internal and external audiences.Preferred start date: 5th of August 2024Expected end date: 27th of September 2024Location: On the Lancaster University campusHours per week: We anticipate a maximum of 160 hours, approx. 20 hours per week, over a two month period. Actual hours worked will depend on the progress of the projectJob DescriptionMain Responsibilities:

  • To design a model at scale of the LU Lancaster campus
  • To create a 3D model of the energy infrastructure of the campus
  • To supervise the fabrication of a physical model of the LU energy infrastructure
  • To report to the project PI the progress of the work
  • To report the progress of the work to colleagues from Pentland, LEC and ImaginationLancaster

Person SpecificationThe successful candidate should be able to demonstrate the following:

  • UG/PG student Design (or Engineering)
  • Knowledge of 3D modelling software (Fusion 3D)
  • Knowledge of Digital Fabrication Process (Laser cutting, 3D printing)
  • Strong Graphic Design skills (Adobe Suite)
  • Experience working 3D modelling of renewable energy projects
