We are seeking 6 motivated locum consultants who are passionate about maternity care and want to join one of the largest maternity providers in the UK.We have 1 post at SMH Oxford Road Campus (ORC), 2 posts at NMGH and 3 posts at Wythenshawe site.Successful applicants will gain experience from a diverse population with many varied pathologies and problems, and we encourage applications from trainees who have recently completed training via specialist training or accreditation routes as we provide a supportive environment for individuals starting out at the consultant grade. The Saint Mary’s managed services in Manchester encompasses 3 maternity units and if successful in post candidates are likely to find further opportunities to pursue maternity care in the great city of Manchester.Initial job plans consist of 10 Pa’s. The posts are for 6 months initially (likely extendable to 12 months on review) .Main duties of the jobThe appointees will be required:1. To support and complement both the secondary and tertiary Obstetric services provided by MFT Trust.2. To take a leading role in improving the quality of services in MFT.3. To take clinical responsibility for a defined cohort of women under their care, both when outpatients and inpatients, and provide cover for women under the care of other consultant colleagues as required.4. To deliver outpatient clinics as agreed on the job plan.5. To participate in the consultant rota patterns for the daytime and out of hours working at the main site of employment.6. To provide out of hours care as described in individual job plan.7. To undertake the necessary administrative work relating to the post.8. To be responsible for the obstetric and gynaecology training of junior staff and undergraduate students andto actively participate in clinical teaching and training of the wider multidisciplinary team.9. To take an active role in Clinical Governance, and lead and participate in audit projects relevant to clinical care.10. To promote research and academic activity within the department.11. To attend Trust and Departmental induction and complete all mandatory training.12. Qualifications and Training
Essential

  • MRCOG or equivalent
  • Registered on the GMC Specialist Register or be eligible for relevant CCT or equivalent within 6 months of interview
  • Completed two obstetric ATSMs

Desirable

  • Higher Degree (PhD, MD)

Experience
Essential

  • Ability to perform obstetric ultrasound to a level equivalent to the RCOG basic obstetric ultrasound module

Desirable

  • Experience of working in a UK tertiary obstetric unit at ST year 5-7 level or as a consultant
  • Genuine interest in high-risk obstetrics
  • Experience and evidence of involvement in service development

Clinical Governance and Education
Desirable

  • Accredited Clinical Supervisor
  • Experience of teaching undergraduates and postgraduates
  • Experience of Audit relevant to Obstetrics
  • Evidence of active involvement in Clinical Governance

Academic Achievements and Research
