Renewable Energy – Contract Management – Leadership – FidicEsbjerg / KøbenhavnThe PositionOn behalf of our client Semco Maritime, we are seeking a highly experienced and driven Legal Director to lead the legal efforts within the fast-growing renewables division of a global leader in energy solutions. As Legal Director, you will be responsible for providing strategic legal advice and ensuring compliance with all regulatory standards, focusing on EPC contracts, offshore substations, and windfarm services. This is a unique opportunity to shape the legal framework for innovative renewable energy projects and contribute to the global transition to sustainable energy.Working closely with the General Counsel and senior management in the renewables division, you will be instrumental in guiding complex projects through contract negotiations, risk mitigation, and compliance with international laws. You will also play a key role in building and developing a high-performing legal team, ensuring they are fully aligned with the division’s goals and operational demands.Success Criteria

  • Legal Expertise & Advisory: Provide clear, strategic legal advice that mitigates risks and protects the company’s interests while driving business objectives in the renewable energy sector.
  • Contract Management: Ensure the efficient drafting, negotiation, and execution of complex EPC contracts and service agreements, mitigating risks and safeguarding the company against disputes and claims.
  • Risk Management: Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies that align with company policies and regulatory standards.
  • Operational Excellence: Support the renewables division by streamlining legal processes, ensuring operational efficiency, and facilitating smooth project execution from contract inception to completion.
  • Team Leadership: Lead and inspire a high-performing legal team, fostering collaboration, professional growth, and ensuring the team operates as a trusted, strategic partner to the business.
  • Regulatory & Compliance Leadership: Ensure all projects comply with relevant legal frameworks and industry standards, particularly in relation to sustainability and environmental regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert legal advice on all matters related to renewable energy projects, including EPC contracts, offshore substations, and windfarm services.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate complex legal documents while ensuring compliance with local and international laws and regulations.
  • Oversee contract management processes, identifying potential risks, handling variations, and managing claim resolutions in collaboration with project management.
  • Proactively manage legal risks and compliance issues within the renewables division, working closely with internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Lead the resolution of legal disputes, including litigation, arbitration, and mediation, in collaboration with Group Legal and external counsel when necessary.
  • Implement best practices for corporate governance within the renewables division, ensuring all corporate actions comply with internal policies and statutory requirements.
  • Mentor and develop the legal team, driving high performance and fostering a collaborative, results-oriented culture.
  • Engage with key stakeholders, representing the company in legal and regulatory forums and ensuring strong partnerships with internal and external teams.

Professional Qualifications

  • Master of Laws (LLM), Doctor Juris, or equivalent legal degree from a recognized institution.
  • Minimum 10 years of legal experience in the energy sector, with a strong focus on renewable energy projects.
  • Proven expertise in managing EPC contracts, offshore substations, and windfarm services. Extensive knowledge of FIDIC or construction law is essential.
  • Strong understanding of international legal frameworks and regulations, particularly in relation to the renewables industry.
  • Excellent negotiation, drafting, and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
  • Experience in leading legal teams and building organizational structures to support complex, high-stakes projects.
