The role seeks a colleague experienced in technology use within the legal profession, particularly generative AI and legal technology in operations. The candidate will teach foundational law modules and advanced electives.What does the job involve?
We are looking for a colleague with experience in the use of technology in the legal profession (e.g, e-discovery) – specifically generative AI, and legal technology in legal operations. We would welcome candidates who are interested in teaching both the knowledge and skills in both the foundational (constitutional and substantive) modules in the first two years of our programme and the more in-depth electives and minors offered in the third year. The latter include, inter alia, LAW, AI & Tech and Cyber Security. You will work in educational teams and also be involved in our extensive and intensive tutorial system designed to enhance our student’s ability to convert their legal knowledge into practical output. In the graduation phase, you will act as supervisor for Internships and Applied Research Projects. For this purpose, and for keeping education up-to-date and practice-oriented, you are expected to have regular contacts with the professional practice.A number of Lecturer responsibilities:

  • Developing and carrying out high standard legal education, in particular in the area of technology regulation and legal technology;
  • Guiding students in their development and acquisition of learning skills, particularly generative AI in legal tasks;
  • Coaching and tutoring students with their practical assignments, applied research projects and internships;
  • Contributing to further developing a job-market oriented curriculum and participating in focused committee work;
  • Interacting with representatives of local, national, and international businesses, nonprofit organisations and governmental institutions to develop applied learning projects and study/career opportunities for our students.

The International and European Law Bachelor Programme of The Hague University of Applied Sciences (THUAS) is a 4-year LL.B. programme, aimed at training students in the fields of commercial law, public international law, human rights and European law, with a strong emphasis on practical legal skills and legal technology. Main focus of the programme in the coming years is to further develop as market-oriented law programme. The Programme, which is licensed and accredited by the Dutch Government, is fast-growing with currently around 1100 students and 50 faculty members of diverse international backgrounds.   • You have at least a (professional) Masters in Law (with a specialization in technology regulation preferred);
  • You have a background in legal operations or experience in legal engineering;
  • You are familiar with legal technology / legal software;
  • You are fluent in English;
  • You want to work in an applied / practice-oriented Programme;
  • You have strong organizational skills, are competent with IT tools and can handle pressure and deadlines;
  • You have interest and demonstrable expertise in teaching (at university level), and an open mind towards new teaching- and learning methods;
  • You are a team player and like to work with people from different cultural backgrounds;
  • You should have obtained, or be willing to obtain, a teaching qualification (BDB).

First and foremost, it’s important that you are able to enjoy your work. In addition, we offer you:

  • An appointment in a temporary post for the period of one year (1,0fte, 40 hours). Extension of the appointment depends on the organizational, educational and financial conditions;
  • A salary between € 4.535,76 and € 6.359,47 gross per month (scale 11) for a full working week,
  • 8% vacation allowance
  • Guaranteed end-of-year pay of 8.3%;
  • An extensive leave arrangement
  • A green travel expense scheme: if you choose public transportation, you will receive 100% reimbursement for an NS business card 2nd class in your name.
