Summary You will serve as a Lead Firefighter (Basic Life Support/HAZMAT Tech) in the Fire & Emergency Services department of NAS SIGONELLA. Responsibilities You will maneuver a firefighting vehicle to keep the fire in optimum range while ensuring that back flash will not occur. You will apply search and rescue techniques in single story building, multiple story buildings, and warehouse structures to save victims from fires. You will coordinate vehicle maintenance, safety alerts, and product recalls for tools and equipment. You will collaborate with fire prevention or safety engineers in studying fire prevention problems. You will establish communication with an ambulance or hospital to relay patient information. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Controlling or extinguishing fires; 2) Performing rescue operations; 3) Detecting, reducing, or eliminating potential fire hazards; 4) Performing noninvasive emergency medical procedures; 5) Driving and operating firefighting vehicles; and 6) Performing work at airfields handling aircraft carrying large volumes of fuel, sometimes nuclear weapons or highly flammable or explosive cargo. The employee is required to work a 72-hour week on a 24-hour on/24 hour off basis that includes weekends, and holidays. May be subject to recall. This position requires the employee to work under adverse environmental conditions and falls under the respiratory protection program and hearing conservation program. Position requires the ability to discern colors, contrast, and depth. May be required to participate on Hazardous Materials Teams (HAZMAT). May be required to perform duties associated with the operation of aircraft arresting barrier equipment. Required to be certified as: Firefighter II, Apparatus Driver/Operator Pumper, Airport Rescue Firefighter, Aircraft Rescue Firefighting, HAZMAT Operations, HAZMAT Technician, CPR, Fire Officer I, Fire Inspector I, and Fire Instructor I. PPP applicants will be placed at the FPL, if determined Well Qualified (WQ). To receive priority consideration, the FPL must be the same grade level or equivalent of the retained grade or the grade held immediately prior to separation. ICTAP Applicants: To be considered well-qualified and exercise selection priority as an ICTAP candidate, displaced Federal employees must satisfy all qualification requirements for the position and receive a rating in the highly qualified category (score 85) or higher. ICTAP candidates must provide copies of all of the following documentation at the time of application: 1) agency notice; 2) most recent performance appraisal; and 3) most recent SF-50 or notification of personnel action that includes position, grade level, and duty location.
