Position Summary:

Bechtel is seeking a Lead Electrical Engineer to join the Electrical department within the Manufacturing and Technology Business Unit (M&T). The prime roles and responsibilities include:

Serves as lead on the customer Global OSM project to develop IFC and IFF package of electrical deliverables for customer module projects globally. Plans and conducts independent work requiring judgment in evaluation, selection, application and adaption of design on a project. Knows applicable industry standards and codes, accepted design practices and quality standards for a global business unit.

Job Dimensions:

A. Supervision Received

• Receives operational supervision and technical guidance from a Project Engineering Manager, Area Project Engineer, or Chief Engineer.

B. Supervision Exercised

• Provides operational direction and technical guidance to subordinate engineer and designer personnel as directed.

C. Contacts

• Establishes and maintains communication with design and engineering supervisors in charge of related disciplines and with administrative personnel within the group or project. Consults with suppliers, module yard, design and construction subcontractors, technical specialists, other disciplines/functions and client representatives as directed to provide and receive technical information and to ensure the coordination of the work within the project or assignment and compliance with Bechtel/client requirements.

Responsibilities:

• Serves as lead on assigned customer Global OSM project to develop IFC and IFF package of electrical deliverables for customer module projects globally. Responsible for assigned activities and deliverables within an engineering or design discipline on the projects.

• Applies broad knowledge of engineering principles and practices to project engineering in the preparation of designs and deliverables.

• Prepares layouts, study drawings, detailed 2-D and 3-D Computer Aided Design (CAD) design models and construction drawings.

• Prepares bulk material quantity takeoffs applicable to the discipline.

• Makes decisions concerning problems within the discipline on the project.

• Represents the discipline on the project and with the client as directed to resolve technical questions.

• Receives operational supervision and technical guidance from an Area Project Engineer, Project Engineering Manager, or Chief Engineer.

• Provides technical guidance to subordinate designers and drafters as assigned.

• Plans, develops, coordinates and reviews design work within a medium size discipline work group on projects of medium size or assignments in support of global business unit.

• Coordinates and interfaces as directed with the day-to-day technical work of discipline engineers, specialists, designers and detailers.

• Communicates complex technical issues and recommends solutions to upper management.

• Facilitates technical discussions with third parties (client, suppliers, regulators).

• Prepares or oversees the preparation of discipline estimates and work plan in accordance with project scope, schedule and budget, and manages implementation and performance accordingly.

• Supports function initiatives of developing Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), Bechtel design guides, appropriate Bechtel Standard Computer Applications (BSAPs) and administrative practices.

• Coordinates with client representatives as delegated to obtain approval on phases of work.

• Reviews and approves key engineering drawings and calculations and bid summaries.

• Coordinates assigned design work with other project groups.

• Mentors designers and drafters by providing appropriate on-the-job training for their professional development.

Qualifications and Skills

Basic Qualifications:

• BS degree in electrical engineering from an accredited university or college (or international equivalent) with minimum 10 years of progressive relevant experience and 3+ years’ experience of module projects.

• PE registration in one state or country.

• Broad knowledge of industry/regulatory codes and standards and design criteria pertinent to the discipline. Knowledge of systems, calculations, equipment, applications of methods, plant layout, materials, and computers for preparation of analyses and development of project deliverables within the discipline. Knowledge and understanding of technical and cost issues related to selection of design features within the discipline.

• Prior experience on executing electrical works in EPC projects with significant module scope of work.

• General knowledge of technical responsibilities of other groups associated with the total design effort.

• Extensive technical knowledge of engineering systems, engineering calculations, applications of engineering methods and materials and applications of computers 2-D and 3-D computer aided design (CAD) and computer aided engineering (CAE) to engineering problems.

• Knowledge of global business unit activities and operations including business development, legal, procurement, construction, environmental safety and health (ES&H), and quality assurance.

• ETAP calculation experience is required.

• Demonstrated depth and breadth of technical competency in at least one of the following subjects: Gas Insulated Switchgear, High Voltage Installations, Customer Owned High Voltage Transmission Lines, Prefabricated Substations, Electrical System Design and Analysis, Electrical Calculations (Load Flow, Motor Starting, Short Circuit, Harmonic Analysis, Transient Stability, Relay Coordination, Arc Flash), Protective Relaying, Power Management Systems, Power Transformers, High Power Adjustable Speed Drive Systems, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), PV/Wind Energy, Microgrid Systems, etc.

• Previous experience preparing estimated quantities, jobhour estimates, and schedule planning.

• Prior work experience being responsible for the engineering progress and performance reporting within a project earned value management system and trending program.

• Skill in leading the technical work of less experienced designers and/or drafters who share in the design effort.

• Demonstrated strong frontline leadership skills and emphasis on continuous improvement and team building and an ability to cope with conflicting deadlines, frequent interruptions, and multiple tasks.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master degree is preferred.

• Prior work experience and responsibility for the supervision on a medium or major size project in Electrical at Bechtel.

• Experience in coordinating with global execution teams and offices.

• Knowledge of Bechtel Engineering Department Procedures.

• Prior experience in planning and executing greenfield or brownfield projects in one or more of the following market segments: Semiconductor, Electric Vehicle, Battery, or Data Center.
