Responsibilities Performs work in support of the in-house laundry operation. Operates commercial laundry machines to wash bulk laundry items. Receives items from laundry workers; loads and unloads items into and out of washing machines and dryers. Ensures proper sort, loading capacity, cleaning solvents and correct settings for operation of machinery. Folds, stacks, bundles, and tags finished items. Operates a press for ironing Maintains stock and the cleanliness of laundry area. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision. Ability to maintain tools and equipment. Ability to keep areas neat and clean and in order. SKILL AND KNOWLEDGE: Must have knowledge of loading capacities of tumblers, extractors, or conditioners; the performance capabilities of laundry equipment; of the types and purposes of cleaning solvents. A basic knowledge of the different types of linen and how they should be laundered is also required. Incumbent must be able to perform troubleshooting and minor repair and maintenance of equipment. FWS Allowances and Differentials All FWS employees are entitled to overtime work for work in excess of 8 hours in a day or in excess of 40 hours in the administrative workweek, whichever provides the greater benefit to the employee. Regular full-time, regular part-time (to include those in a limited tenure appointment category) and regularly scheduled flexible employees are entitled to Sunday premium pay when working Sunday shifts. A FWS employee will be paid a night shift differential of 7.5% for the entire shift when a majority of the employee’s regularly scheduled non-overtime hours of work occur between the hours of 1500 and 2400. A FWS employee will be paid a night shift differential of 10% of the scheduled rate if a majority of the employee’s regularly scheduled non-overtime hours of work occur between the hours of 2300-0800.
