Summary of Responsibilities:

The Lab Specialist is a key role within the European ESTANE Technical Service Center (EETC) focused on providing state of the art technical support to internal and external customers and evaluating, developing, and optimizing Lubrizol TPU materials. The purpose of this role is to ensure lab continuity by managing the lab equipment and strive for continuous improvement in laboratory processes, procedures, and efficiency.

Essential Job Functions:  

-Oversee the day-to-day operations of the laboratory: ensuring proper utilization of resources and coordinating with other departments or teams as needed.
-Maintaining and managing laboratory equipment, instruments, and supplies by ensuring that all equipment is properly calibrated, maintained, and in working condition.
-Support lab equipment contingency plan by executing internal calibrations, lab equipment cleaning and (small) maintenance to ensure continuity, accuracy, and reliability of test results.
-Oversee inventory management, including ordering and restocking of supplies.
-Strive for continuous improvement in laboratory processes, procedures, and efficiency. Identify areas for improvement and implement changes to enhance productivity and quality.
-Support Technical Service manager to keep lab complaint with ISO 9001 and ISO 14001

-Execute work requests using stage gate process and according to weekly planning.
-Plan, design, and execute laboratory experiments to develop and optimize engineered polymer materials, formulations, and processes.
-Perform complex physical and chemical tests on polymers, including mechanical testing, thermal analysis, rheology, and spectroscopy.
-Measure and gather product characteristic data to create, feed and update Technical Service databases.

-Report technical guidance and technical data to internal and external customers to support value propositions and customer communications.

-Prepare technical reports and documentation to communicate findings and project progress.
-Support prototyping and new product developments that meet customer needs, creating unique testing protocols, and simulate end-use performance.
-Collaborate with R&D and Technical Service Engineers to develop new formulations, improve existing products, and address technical challenges.
-Lead and mentor (junior) lab technicians, providing technical guidance, training, and support.

-Ensure compliance with safety protocols and proactively maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment.
 

 

Skills, Qualifications, Experience, Special Physical Requirements:

-Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in a technical field and at least 5 years of experience in polymer related industry, preferably lab environment.
-In-depth knowledge of laboratory techniques, equipment, and safety protocols.
-Strong drive for execution of results and able to analyze, interpret and report technical data.
-Excellent problem-solving skills and a track record of driving innovation and continuous improvement.
-Able to plan and prioritize workload to meet deadlines while keeping accurate records of the lab work to ensure detailed reporting.
-Strong communication skills to effectively convey information, discus results, and work together towards common goals.
-Teamplayer
-Self-learning capability with drive to learn new techniques, technologies, and procedures.
-Good knowledge of English.
-Working knowledge of TPU is a plus:
