Your Profile
We are seeking exceptional candidates at the rank of junior group leader with a documented expertise in immunological research. An interest in mechanistic research of immune cell function, immune-metabolism, and their consequences for cardiovascular diseases or cancer are particularly welcome. The successful candidate will have a record of originality and productivity in graduate and postdoctoral research as well as clearly formulated plans for an independent and competitive research program including acquisition of third-party funding.

The Junior Research Group will be located in a well-equipped research building offering laboratory and office space with modern infrastructure facilities as well as access to animal facilities.

Qualification requirements include a PhD or MD/Ph.D. degree, appropriate postdoctoral training (no more than 6 years after Ph.D.) and a three-year research plan.

Our Offer
Funding covers the positions of the group leader, a postdoctoral scientist, and a part-time technician as well as consumables and instrumentation. The selected candidate can expect a lively scientific environment with internal and external collaborations. The Junior Research Group Leader will work closely with the groups of Prof. H. Winkels, Cardiology Department, and Prof. C. Pallasch, Oncology Department, who have a deep interest in studying immune responses in cardiovascular diseases and cancer, respectively. The Junior Group Leader will develop a new research initiative focusing on immune mechanisms in cardio-oncology, a clinically highly relevant field of research. The successful candidate will gain high visibility in the local and international community and can benefit from outstanding leadership training at the University Hospital Cologne.

Your salary will be based on TV-L.

Your future in detail
The group Prof. Winkels focuses on the regulation of innate and adaptive immune responses in cardiovascular disease. We study how immune responses affect inflammatory, but also tissue regenerative pathways in preclinical models of myocardial infarction, atherosclerosis, and aortic aneurysm formation.
