Job Introduction:

BBC Three Counties Radio is an exciting multimedia newsroom serving a large but disparate audience in Beds, Herts and Bucks. It is among the most challenging places to cut through the crowded media market place but we consistently punch above our weight. We are looking for a motivated, innovative journalism coordinator to help shape our content. We want a driven and passionate person who is keen to reach new audiences with the news that matters to them. You’ll know what audiences expect from different platforms and how to work as a team often to a tight deadline. The role requires someone who is confident on air, technically capable and keen to do more than just look for press releases – we want original ideas that help reflect the diverse audience that lives in the three counties. This role requires early starts and may require weekend working

Main Responsibilities:

  • You’ll help producers in preparing and outputting our programmes, supporting a multiplatform approach to local content.
  • The role has some technical responsibilities, including editing audio and dealing with live sources as the show is transmitted, as well as speaking to callers and contributors preparing content for our linear services and BBC Sounds.
  • As part of the production team, you will also come up with ideas for stories and treatments, set up guests, write scripts and provide research.

Are you the right Candidate?

Inclusivity, respect, team work and creativity are important to us:

  • You’ll need to demonstrate these values as well as having a passion to serve local audiences.
  • You will have the ability to work flexibly and efficiently under pressure, to tight deadlines and in a constantly changing live studio environment, with first rate communication skills.
  • You’ll know what producers and presenters need to create the best possible content, you will have a good understanding of how to tailor material to suit different platforms, and you’ll be excited about BBC Local’s goals and the future of audio.
  • You may work across a range of shifts, including weekends.

About the BBC

We are committed to equality of opportunity and welcome applications from individuals, regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, socio-economic background, religion and/or belief. We will consider flexible working requests for all roles, unless operational requirements prevent otherwise.
