    Job Purpose

    The IT Support Apprentice will provide effective and friendly IT Helpdesk/Services operations across the academies in the Northamptonshire cluster.  It is working across Kettering, Northampton and Bugbooke (outskirts of Northampton)   The post holder’s main role will be to provide effective first and at times second line support to customers served by their cluster. The role will require travel within the cluster, for example to provide field technician support. Travel expenses beyond the normal commute to the principal place of work will be reimbursed following receipt of an authorised expenses claim. Normal working hours will be in agreement with the IT Cluster Manager. You may be required to vary your hours to provide IT Support for meetings/events outside of the normal working hours and to complete other IT related work that cannot take place during normal working hours.

    As this role is an apprenticeship role, training will be provided to enable the postholder to perform the duties of an IT Support Technician

    Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performing administrative tasks.

  • Assisting with technical projects when directed.

  • Call answering and logging of support tickets.

  • Using initiative in problem solving.

  • Taking an active interest in IT Support.

  • Diagnosis and resolution of software and hardware incidents.

  • Support the learning of our students by effective use of IT; this could include setting up specialist equipment and other technologies for use in various teaching sessions.

    Please note that you MUST be a driver who holds a full UK Driving Licence  and access to a vehicle to apply for this role as it will be split across three schools.  It is working across Kettering, Northampton and Bugbooke (outskirts of Northampton) .

    The training you’ll be provided with:

  • Comprehensive introductory modules to technical concepts

  • Level 3 Information Communications Technician apprenticeship standard

  • Training for all pathways of your IT career (support technician, network technician, digital communications technician)

  • Specialising in a portfolio of evidence for the Support Technician pathway

  • e-learning training materials

  • Bi-weekly virtual classroom training on all options of the apprenticeships;

  • Access to virtual labs to develop technical competency

  • Monthly work-based coaches visits and competency checks

  • 9 am – 5 pm Support desk for technical support

  • Personal Learning and Thinking Skills and Key Skills development

  • Option for vendor and technical certificates- e.g. CompTIA

    You will also have the opportunity to network with a range of other apprentices on our programe who can share ideas, offer suggestions and support. Our apprentices love being able to help each other!

    As one of our apprentices, you will also have access to our online portal that will provide you with information and technical guidance, as well as links to the helpdesk to speak to technicians who can give real-time advice and support.

    Working Week:

37 hours per week – Monday to Friday.

Salary: £14,862 + (Including paid mileage at 0.45p/per mile) 

Desired Qualifications:

We require someone who is educated to GCSE standard English and Math’s grade 4 (or above), or Functional Skills Level 2 in English and Math’s.

Expected Duration:

15 months and 4 Months End Point Assessment
