Are you an experienced IT Infrastructure Engineer looking to make a significant impact in a dynamic academic environment? Birkbeck, University of London, is seeking an IT Infrastructure Engineer to join us this Autumn.This role is crucial to ensuring the secure and efficient operation of our IT infrastructure. It is an exciting opportunity to be part of an essential function within Birkbeck – to provide for both the development of new Windows and Linux infrastructure as well as the ongoing secure and efficient operation of existing infrastructure.The role provides for the design, development, administration and support of complex IT infrastructure systems, including Linux and Windows virtual server administration, server host and storage management, messaging and associated services, Active Directory and Azure AD within an M365 environment, Cloud services (AWS and Oracle OCI), scripting and automations, system security and 3rd line troubleshooting across all the associated infrastructure used by all staff and students at the College.You will report to the Infrastructure Manager, as well as indirectly to the Infrastructure Architect. Whilst this is a technical role, there will be engagement with customers, and customer service and quality management are essential to the successful delivery of this role.As an IT Infrastructure Engineer, you should have:
- Extensive experience with server and storage technologies in a VMWare environment
- Strong knowledge of Windows and Linux security standards
- Proficiency in scripting and automation tools like PowerShell and Ansible
- Excellent troubleshooting skills for complex technical issues
- Strong communication skills to work effectively with various stakeholders.
