Job Title IP CounselJob DescriptionIn this role, you have the opportunity to contribute to the IP creation activities and expanding the IP portfolio of the ultrasound business and other businesses in the medical imaging field. You will participate in the conception and execution of appropriate IP strategies and manage third-party IP risks, and you will contribute to IP matters in a wide range of collaborations with third parties. You will be part of Philips’ Intellectual Property & Standards organization (IP&S) which is an integral part of Philips. IP&S is responsible for defining and executing the overall Philips IP strategy, and for building and managing Philips IP portfolio on a worldwide basis for all types of IP.Your role:

  • Contribute to the maintenance and expansion of our IP portfolio, including the filing and prosecuting of patent applications, focusing on innovations in the field of ultrasound and such other medical imaging modalities, to protect Philips innovations in both hardware and software including AI.
  • Advise Philips’ ultrasound businesses on all IP related matters, including training and guidance, in alignment with the responsible IP Business Partner.
  • Capture value from our IP portfolio through solid IP positions, either by exclusivity, licensing or such other IP arrangements.
  • Managing third-party IP risks, and, when needed, seeking access to third-party IP at the lowest cost possible.

You’re the right fit if:

  • A BSc, MSc or PhD degree in physics, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, computer sciences, or similar.
  • Ideally about three years of IP experience, particularly in terms of drafting and prosecuting patent applications, optionally also in terms of handling IP matters such as those in contracts and freedom-to-operate.
  • Preferably at least partially qualified as a patent attorney, either national or EQE.
  • Professional experience in the medical field, for example in an academic or industrial R&D setting, would be an asset but is not required.
  • Excellent communications skills to operate at all levels, both internally and externally.
  • A positive and flexible team player with excellent relationship building, influencing, and negotiating abilities.
  • Proficiency in English, both orally and in writing (minimum C1).

How we work togetherWe believe that we are better together than apart. For our office-based teams, this means working in-person at least 3 days per week.
