Job description

POWERING AEROSPACE FUTURE WITH THE NEXTGEN PROPULSION TECHNOLOGYAt HyPrSpace, our mission is clear : to make advanced propulsion technology affordable and accessible for a wide array of applications, from civilian to defense. With our pioneering hybrid rocket engine, we’re introducing a new era of aerospace capabilities—more efficient, cost-effective, safer, and sustainable.By stepping into HyPrSpace, you’re not just taking on a role; you’re embracing a mission where your expertise, creativity, and determination unlock unprecedented realms of possibilities. Your work will directly contribute to enhance the versatility and applicability of our systems. At HyPrSpace, we value the contribution of our interns and offer them full integration into our teams !In 2024, we are proud that 80% of our interns ended with a permanent contract, the others having chosen to continue their PhD studies or to embark on an entrepreneurial adventure by themselves! For this internship, you will join the “Structures and Mechanical Design” team, responsible for developing the full structures of our engines and launchers. Background:
Thrust Vector Control (TVC) is a key technology used in space propulsion systems to direct the thrust and control the orientation of vehicles such as launchers. Among the TVC solutions, flexible thrust bearings offer an innovative and effective method of diverting thrust by modifying nozzle orientation. In order to validate these systems, it is essential to develop representative test specimens and carry out bench tests to assess their behavior and performance. Objective of the Internship:
The aim is to produce functional mechanical demonstrators and carry out bench testing campaigns to assess the feasibility and performance of this technology in conditions simulating operational environments. You will participate in the design, manufacture and testing of specimens dedicated to the characterization of a TVC system using a flexible stop, and more specifically the following parts :Design of the test specimen:
-Study the technical specifications of flexible stops for a TVC system.
-Carry out the detailed design of a test specimen incorporating a flexible stop and its mechanical interfaces.
-Integrate the sensors needed to measure thrust, angles, and other important parameters for performance analysis on the test rig.Manufacturing and mechanical validation:
-Monitor the manufacture of the components and assemble the test specimen.
-Carry out preliminary mechanical tests to validate the robustness and functionality of the specimen before bench testing.Bench testing:
-Set up the instruments needed to measure system performance (forces, angular displacements, etc.).
-Define and carry out test protocols to assess the behavior of the flexible stop under different stresses (thermal, dynamic, static).
-Analyzing the results and correlating the experimental data with theoretical or numerical models.Production of demonstrators:
-Develop one or more demonstrators based on test feedback to illustrate the performance of the flexible stop concept.
-Documenting results and writing test reports:
-Write technical reports including test results and recommendations for improving the system.
-Document manufacturing procedures and test configurations to ensure reproducibility.Expected Skills:

  • Mechanical design: 3D design (preferably SolidWorks), modelling and analysis of mechanical constraints.
  • Testing and instrumentation: ability to use measuring instruments (force and position sensors, etc.) and to analyze experimental data.
  • General mechanics: Understanding of the principles of mechanics applied to propulsion and control systems.
  • Practical skills: Ability to manage the manufacturing and assembly stages of mechanical demonstrators.

Profile Sought:
You are in your final year of engineering school, specializing in mechanics and space.
A rigorous approach and the ability to work as part of a team will be essential assets if you are to succeed in this placement. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to share your ideas and propose innovative topics that align with the company’s forward-thinking vision. If this offer drives you: send your resume, and above all, let us know what ignites your passion for space, and why the HyPrSpace mission resonates with you !HyPrSpace is an equal opportunity employer, committed to building a diverse and inclusive team. Our selection process is based on competencies requirements for positions only. If you are eager to make a significant impact, come as you are, we want to hear from you.At HyPrSpace, we’re developing a hybrid rocket engine versatile enough to redefine the whole aerospace landscape. This is about making advanced propulsion affordable and accessible for a wide range of applications, from civilian to defense. Our technology is a game-changer for the entire aerospace sector : it is more efficient, cost-effective, safer and greener. We’re a united team of 60+ (and still growing) aerospace enthusiasts developing a revolution in this industry : a patented hybrid rocket engine that actually works.
