Duties and Responsibilities

This post is located in the United Nations Security and Safety Service (UNSSS), Division for Management (DM) of the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV). The Intern reports to the Chief, UNSSS through the Assistant Chief. The position supports the work of the Security and Safety Service. The internship is for six (6) months with a desired starting date in October 2024. The position will be UNPAID and full-time, i.e. five days (40 hours per week) under the supervision of the Assistant Chief, coordinator of the Security Risk Management Team. For information on the work of UNOV kindly visit www.unov.org Within assigned authority, the Intern will be responsible for the following duties: – Daily information collation from open sources; – Research on security topics and drafting of written assessments and reports; – drafting and delivery of briefings on security topics; – Conducts research on new technologies as requested; keeps abreast of developments in the field; assists in testing and evaluating new products and technologies; – Assist in the Pass Office with picture taking and other administrative tasks weekly; – Performs other related duties as required;

Qualifications/special skills

Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work. experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Applicants should have good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams. Ability to do research in various topics is desirable

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in English (oral and written proficiency) is required. Knowledge of another United Nations language is desirable. Working knowledge of German is an advantage.
