Honorary Treasurer

Chile for Christ was registered as a UK charity in 1992 to fulfil Isaiah 49:6 by helping to take the light of God’s salvation to the end of the earth.

We are supported by donations from the UK (currently around £12,000 p.a.) which we use: to support Chilean churches and other Christian organizations in their work of evangelism, pastoral care and social service; families and individuals known to us who are in need; and disaster victims. A friendly team of four trustees/helpers manages the work on a voluntary basis, communicating by email and about five online meetings a year.

Responsibilities (approximately 2 hours per week on average)

1. Maintain an ongoing record of all financial activities and transactions.
2. Manage the bank accounts.
3. Prepare half-yearly and annual accounts.
4. Receive and bank postal donations, and send formal letters of thanks to the donors.
5. Receive notifications of online donations and respond to donors with an email of thanks.
6. Attend online trustees’ meetings to report, contribute and advise.
7. Make payments and grants as agreed by the management team.
8. Make an annual return of Gift Aid claims to HMRC.
9. (Optional but preferred) Seek funding from institutions and grant-making trusts.
10. Keep members of the management team informed about significant donations and other relevant developments.
11. Pray.

Necessary expenses will be reimbursed, and an extended induction will be provided.

We are looking for the following personal qualities: reliability, communication skills, teamwork, compassion, encouragement, faith in God, common sense and openness to the Holy Spirit’s guidance. Spiritual gifts of administration, wisdom, knowledge and giving are welcome!

Written evidence of ability and experience relevant to the role will be required, including any relevant qualifications in accountancy, etc., as well as satisfactory character references, including one from a person in authority in the applicant’s local church. Preference will be given to candidates willing to act as trustees.
