Join us as Head of Manufacturing Sciences for the Vienna site. The Vienna manufacturing site, Takeda’s largest, proudly stands on more than 70 years of expertise and breakthrough innovations for our patients, including plasma-derived therapies and biologics. More than twenty different products leave the Vienna site and reach patients in the local market and over 100 countries worldwide.

Reporting to: Vienna Site Head

Primary Duties:

  • Lead the Vienna site’s Manufacturing Sciences (MSci) organization.
  • Ensure robust and stable manufacturing processes for proteinaceous products.
  • Oversee Manufacturing Process Life Validation Cycle (Optimization, PPQ, CPV).
  • Drive yield monitoring, forecasts, and improvement strategies.
  • Manage MSci Process Labs.
  • Contribute to site operational performance and strategy as part of the Site Leadership Team (SLT).

Operational Activities:

  • Oversee all activities related to the Manufacturing Process Life Cycle.
  • Drive yield planning, tracking, and improvement for plasma-related products.
  • Manage MSci Process Labs’ efficiency.
  • Develop strategies to reduce deviations, stabilize processes, and improve yields.
  • Promote a culture of safety, sustainability, and DE&I within MSci.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and GMP standards.
  • Monitor MSci performance using visual management systems.
  • Lead and develop a team of MSci leaders.
  • Collaborate with other GMS/GQ departments and the global MSci community.
  • Drive digitalization and automation of processes and lab operations.

Leadership:

  • Develop high-performing MSci teams.
  • Leverage digital data and technology for departmental transformation.
  • Develop a robust succession pipeline for key positions.
  • Establish a positive, safe work environment.
  • Set and coordinate MSci goals to meet site metrics and strategic imperatives.
  • Support decision-making processes and act as a role model.

Strategic Activities:

  • Monitor and analyze KPIs for improvement opportunities.
  • Establish strategies to achieve business objectives.
  • Execute value-creation initiatives for OPEX improvement.
  • Manage the MSci budget within constraints.
  • Support the development of the MSci department towards digitalization.
  • Foster a modern working environment and exceptional Employee Experience.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Required:
  • Master’s degree in biotechnology, pharmacy, bio-/chemistry, or equivalent.
  • 10-15 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry, preferably in biotechnology.
  • Strong knowledge of (Plasma) manufacturing processes and Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Excellent leadership, management, and project management skills.
  • Fluency in English; conversational German.
  • Preferred:
  • Knowledge of fractionation & purification of plasma proteins.
  • Knowledge of US, EU, and ICH GMP guidelines.
  • Understanding of Quality Management and GxP principles.

  • Strong language skills in German and English for technical materials.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Understand plasma-derived therapies and their manufacturing processes.

  • Prioritize local and global strategic and operational issues.
