About this role

JET Ventures is driving growth across the Just Eat Takeaway.com platform. From growing strategic partnerships to unlocking new commercial opportunities, and exploring the latest AI and technology developments in the market, we’re scanning the horizon and driving our growth.

As Head of Engineering for our Groceries and Retail space, you’ll lead several groups of dedicated engineers who are pushing us into new verticals — unlocking new product offerings for customers and enabling our ever-expanding network of partners to thrive on our platform.

Reporting to the Director of Engineering for Ventures, you’ll collaborate with senior stakeholders across our global business and external partners to build a high-performing engineering organisation capable of tackling one of JET’s most exciting growth opportunities.

You’ll own the delivery of end-to-end, stream-aligned solutions — from early experimentation through to large-scale, production-ready systems that reach millions of customers and partners. This is a role for a leader who can lead, deliver, and care, guiding teams to move fast, collaborate effectively, and build for long-term success.

Location: Hybrid – 3 days a week in our London office, 2 days from home

Reporting to: Director of Engineering – JET Ventures

These are some of the key ingredients to the role:

• Lead our Grocery and Retail Engineering teams, a cross-functional group building solutions across all areas of our product platform.
• Foster an engineering culture focused on value and outcomes, promoting ownership, agility, and quality across teams.
• Build strong relationships across Engineering, Product, and Commercial teams to ensure seamless delivery and rapid time to market.
• Shape the Ventures pipeline, taking products from inception to scale and transitioning successful solutions into our core product pillars.
• Collaborate with senior stakeholders globally to prioritise initiatives, balancing cost, effort, and value to drive high-impact delivery.
• Develop and execute a technical strategy aligned with JET’s broader product vision and long-term technology roadmap.
• Empower your teams through coaching and mentorship, supporting personal growth and creating a culture of continuous improvement.
• Drive positive change across Product and Tech, championing JET’s values while improving system health and delivery excellence.

What will you bring to the table?

• Proven experience working with senior and executive stakeholders across multiple disciplines.
• Strong track record of building and leading cross-functional teams focused on end-to-end product delivery.
• Deep understanding of software engineering practices, architectures, and methodologies, applied in complex environments.
• A growth mindset and entrepreneurial approach to building and scaling technology organisations.
• A collaborative leadership style that fosters trust, empowerment, and accountability.
• Ability to thrive in ambiguity, turning undefined challenges into opportunities for innovation.
• Experience guiding and developing future leaders through coaching and mentorship.
