Medical Museion seeks an imaginative, energetic and experienced museum professional to oversee our internationally significant collections. The position is permanent 37 hours a week, starting May 1st 2025 or soonest hereafter.The job focuses on maximising their use in research and dissemination, digitization and care, as well as strategic new acqusitions. The post-holder will manage a small team, be part of the museum’s senior management team, and will be expected to be active across the university as well as the museum sector.Medical Museion, .dk reimagines health and medicine by researching and collecting through the lenses of science, history, society and culture. We engage publics and stakeholders with imaginative exhibitions, events, as well as through other activities. We aim to enrich people’s lives by deepening their understanding of bodies and minds; medicine and health, and their contexts.
We are an internationally recognised research-museum based in Copenhagen University’s Public Health Department k. We are also part of the Novo Nordisk Foundation Centre for Basic Metabolic Research . In each context, our work helps bridge academic research into different interest groups and society, juxtaposing perspectives through multidisciplinary investigations.KEY OBJECTIVES * Develop access/use of collections (for research, public dissemination and stakeholder engagement);

• Oversee care of collections (including historic aspects of buildings) and plan for new storage;
• Responsible for cataloguing, digitizing, researching existing collections and for strategic new acquisitions;
• Manage Collections Team (approx. 5 employees); be part of senior museum management; and maintain networks at Copenhagen University, Danish and international museums.

• Master’s degree or equivalent in a relevant subject
• Experience as a museum professional, with a track record of imaginative collections access & care
• Exceptional written, verbal and presentation skills in Danish and English
• Knowledge of the Danish museum/cultural context, plus familiarity with international museums

It is also an advantage if you are:

• Experienced at managing a small, motivated team; & participated in senior management groups
• Familiar with digital catalogue systems (preferably SARA)
• Familiar with working in research environments & ability to form partnerships with experts/professionals
• Experienced in highly collaborative and innovative working practices
• Experienced in fund-raising for and managing collections-based projects
• Experienced at being a spokesperson for collections (T.V. & other media)
• Knowledgeable about medicine, science & health collections
• In possession of other professional qualification &/or courses in conservation & collection care

Terms of salary and employment
The employment and salary are made in accordance with the Circular on the Collective Agreement concerning academics in the state sector concluded between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations). Employment will be as chief consultant with staff management. Negotiation for a salary supplement is possible. The working hours are 37 hours per week on average and the working hours are flexible.Further information
