Job Description Summary At Avio Aero, a GE Aviation Business unit, we’ve been reimagining the power of flight for more than 100 years. We are specialized in the design, production and maintenance of components and systems for both the civil and military aviation. The Gears and Shaft mechanical Designer’s prime responsibility will be to perform design activities related to gears of aeronautical mechanical power transmissions for future applications and lead hardware procurement for technology demonstrators (flight demos included)Job DescriptionEssential ResponsibilitiesYou will use expertise to solve problems, develop and execute objectives for self and others, and have the ability to affect short-term and some long-term business goalsIn addition you will:Build and strengthen technical knowledge expertise on gears and shafts for aeronautical power gearboxesExecute technical feasibility studies and concept design of mechanical transmission components, with a focus on gears design, for next engine opportunities (Next Gen Narrow Body, Hybrid Electric platforms)Design sub-system and components identifying alternatives, agreeing upon design CTQs, scoring and down-selecting optimal solution to achieve product performance/cost/weight.Capture system requirements, flow-down to components definition identifying relevant validation needsExecute detailed design of GBX components for test vehicles and technology maturation needsProactively support activities with other departments and suppliers (concurrence design)Issue the technical documents relative to the components design according to engineering policies and procedures (presentations as well as analysis reports)Contribute to and participate as a presenter in technical and program reviewsSupport source technological substantiation and non-conformances assessments (MRB)Support activities related to development findings, components performance and investigations (test requests, test data postprocess, laboratories investigation)Use of design tools: CAD as Unigraphics NX, and CAE as Nastran, Ansys and in-house S/Ws.
