The Role:
Commodity Insights is looking for a European gas analyst to contribute to its EMEA gas analysis and forecasting services, delivered under their market-leading product line. This exciting role will be in a team producing price forecasts, writing forward looking market commentary and developing analytical tools, research, and models. The role will leverage your quantitative, modelling and communication skills to develop European and Global Gas market insight.
The Impact:
Commodity Insights is a global team responsible for analysing, interpreting, and forecasting all global energy commodities markets and prices. Our customers represent a wide range of activities across the energy and investment communities and, as a result, our analysis is reviewed and challenged from many different perspectives, and contributes to key strategic decisions made in the industry. You will play a key role in supporting Commodity Insights’ services and could also play a role in developing these services into major new growth areas.
The Career Opportunity:
This is a role with significant potential for rapid development. You will be a key input into Commodity Insights’ EMEA gas and power analysis service and its development as part of an integrated, cross commodity global analysis offering, with a time horizon focus on the next three years. In addition, there will be ample opportunity to contribute to an established global brand and requirement to participate in customer-facing activities, including meetings, webinars and (in time) conference presentations.
The Team / The Business:
You will be part of the EMEA Gas and Power Analytics team of specialists with outstanding knowledge of European and global gas, power, carbon, and renewable fuel markets. The team works closely with global gas and LNG teams, with whom collaboration is essential.
Accountabilities:
Be an expert
Analyse the drivers that set the value of natural gas in Europe, and links with global markets
Spot and identify emerging trends early and, where possible, anticipate market movements
Have and build on understanding of natural gas trading, modelling, and forecasting of demand, supply and price
Constantly update market knowledge including price movements, trade-flows, trading behaviour, policy and regulatory developments
Harness existing data sets, identify new, valuable data sets for collection and support rigorous reviews of the quality of that information
Research, collect, organize, standardize, process, and analyse gas market data
Develop and rigorously adhere to independent, transparent methodology for all analytical processes
Demonstrate a dynamic approach to learning and a passion for the natural gas industry and Commodity Insights’ leading place in it
Communicate expertise
Assist our clients make better-informed trading, risk management and investment decisions by:
Communicating expertise through the creation and delivery of succinct, high-quality, accurate and timely written content in the form of reports and presentations which leverage the team’s knowledge
Creating charts and other visually valuable content that illustrates key market trends
Meeting with clients and prospects, in person or virtually (occasional travel, restrictions permitting)
Innovate
Build internal relationships at Commodity Insights that will help generate ideas for the integration of pricing content with fundamental data to offer greater value to customers. Seize opportunities for collaboration to provide a better experience to users of Commodity Insights’ information services
Use competitive intelligence to stay ahead
Work with Commodity Insights’ technology teams to develop robust databases, products and tools that could become embedded in our customers’ work-flows and processes

Challenge processes and status quo, be prepared to place own footprint on organisation
Exhibit best practice behaviours in all business activities to uphold ethical and business standards to build on and maintain high levels of staff engagement
Knowledge & Skills:
Strong quantitative background
An interest in the energy industry and an aptitude for problem-solving is imperative.
Experience in analysing natural gas or closely related markets (such as power or LNG) in commercial or consulting environments is a bonus but not a requirement.
Experience in other energy commodity markets such as LNG, power, coal and oil is highly advantageous, in particular knowing how energy markets are regulated and the principles of marginal cost supply and demand modelling
We are looking for an individual who is self-driven, naturally curious, with excellent team and communication skills, and eager to grow into a commodity expert
Strong Excel skills are required. Experience with data handling or scripting languages such as SQL, Python, Matlab, VBA, SAS, or cube data structure would be useful, as the manipulation of large, complex datasets for modelling and data visualisation purposes is an essential part of the role.
Verbal and written fluency in English is essential. Knowledge of other European languages is helpful
