Organizational Context

The Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) is ministry of the Society of Jesus, incorporated as an international non-governmental organisation with a mission to accompany, serve, and advocate for the rights of refugees and forcibly displaced people. The organisation was founded in November 1980 and now has a presence in over 58 countries. JRS undertakes services at national and regional levels with the support and guidance of an international office (IO) in Rome. The style of JRS service is human and spiritual, working in situations of greatest need, seeking the long-term well-being of refugees and displaced people while not neglecting their immediate or urgent needs.
The main services provided are in the field of education, reconciliation, livelihood activities and psychosocial support. Currently, almost 1 million individuals are direct beneficiaries of JRS projects.

Resource mobilisation at the International Office is carried out by the Communications & Fundraising Department – C&F (raising donations from individuals, religious congregations, companies, and small family foundations) and the Grants Unit of the Programmes & Innovation Department – P&I (raising funding from grant makers).

The Fundraising Assistant will be part of the Fundraising Department and will support the team to ensure the implementation of the global resource mobilisation strategy.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

The Fundraising Assistant is a full-time position, whose main responsibility is to support with donor cultivation and stewardship with High-Net-Worth individuals, Religious Congregations, Corporations, and Foundations:

  • support in running online and offline fundraising campaigns;
  • assist in preparing content briefing materials, proposals, presentations and other dissemination materials needed to successful cultivation and solicitation;
  • support in reviewing periodic progress and final project reports by consolidating project information received from the field and putting this content into donor-friendly, aesthetically pleasing reports and proposals to fulfil donor compliance expectations and foster opportunities for new gifts;
  • support in planning, organizing and managing logistical arrangements for meetings, seminars, conferences, workshops, and events (online and in person);
  • assist in administrative tasks of the department;
  • support in research and qualify prospective donors in selected markets in line with the JRS global investment and fundraising strategy;
  • research, review, clean up and update information contained in the JRS CRM database;
  • perform other duties that may be reasonably requested as part of this position.

Qualifications and competencies

  • University Degree in a relevant field;
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in fundraising and donor stewardship, or internship experience within JRS.
  • Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office, and any experience with development software, Salesforce, Active Campaign, a plus;
  • Excellent editing, and verbal communications skills;
  • Good organizational skills and ability to handle multiple tasks, with attention to detail;
  • Ability to work independently and in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills, and the ability to work in a multi-cultural, international, and intense work environment;
  • Fluent in English; French or Spanish a plus;
  • Experience and / or knowledge of faith-based organizations is a plus.
