The Business Office Financial Controller is a member of the Finance team and reports directly into the Business Office Manager. The Business Office team is responsible for the accounting and administration of all financial transactions of the school according to Dutch legal standards. The core purpose of the controller role is to be in control and make sure the financial administration runs like clockwork and provides high quality financial data for the management of the school.Core Job Functions: * Financial Closing Coordination:

  • Coordinate the closing activities with the rest of the team (AR, AP, prepaid, differed income, bank, revenue and costs accruals etc)
  • Streamline closing processes together with the Finance Director and determine the drumbeat of the department.
  • Closing of tangible fixed assets in AFAS
  • Closing of question accounts
  • Actively participating in monthly closing and controlling of the various BS & P&L accounts
  • Balance Sheet control: review reconciliation of all GL accounts on a monthly basis. Keep track of the suspense accounts under control
  • Debtors credit control;
  • Collections and cash flow: Review and reconcile/allocate receipts
  • Revenue recognition: Work on a right allocation of the extra activities’ income of the school
  • Accounts Payable
  • Review and control the payment batches
  • Regular review of the issues with scanning system (Whitevision)
  • Help with implementation of new Purchase to Pay (P2P) system
  • Help with the implementation of the order management in AFAS together with our IT Business analyst.
  • Petty cash accounting;
  • Counts, documents and processes cash payments and expenses,
  • Keeps a sufficient balance of the petty cash,
  • Ensures that the petty cash is safely stored.
  • Financial Reporting
  • Help with follow-up of the expenses and the right allocation to the cost centers: Operational Budget and Capex
  • Prepare the service calculation for CDLT (in consultation with the Events coordinator)
  • Help build the financial reporting from AFAS based on the mapping of all GL accounts. Not only P&L but also BS.
  • Assist with Cash Flow movement reporting and planning together with the Finance Manager.
  • Audit

a. Coordinate and support year-end financial auditsb. Coordinate requests with different departments * General financial accounting;

  • Conducts general accounting work, including; fixed assets, archiving, answering day-to-day questions, reporting (budgets spending, professional development spending, etc.),
  • Help with the accounting procedures and principles handbook that is in the making
  • Supporting the Building and Maintenance team
  • Maintain contracts in the archive software Xtendis and update the contract database
  • General on demand help;
  • Helps employees, parents and students with a variety of questions, answering them in a timely, polite and professional manner.

Job Requirements: * Education required: Degree at HBO (college level) or higher

  • Education preferred: Degree in finance at HBO (college) level
  • Experience required: At least 5 to 7 years of experience in financial controlling, audit, and/or overall finance administration, preferably in an international setting.
  • Takes initiative, hands on, can work independently, is extremely service oriented and accurate. Culturally sensitive and a real team player. Computer skills as required in a modern IT oriented organization
  • Required knowledge/skills: Fluency in English and Dutch, both verbally and in writing, general knowledge of Dutch (accounting) laws and regulations. Awareness of finance best practices, excellent communication skills.
  • Specific requirements: Experience with accounting software (AFAS software ) as well as MS Office (particularly Excel) and Google sheets.
