Are you a film/video techie who enjoys helping others? Pratt Institute’s Film/Video Department is seeking a Technician who is a creative problem-solver with excellent communication skills to support students and faculty by providing technical supervision, training, and guidance in the safe operation of our film and video equipment and production facilities. The ideal candidate would have a background utilizing a variety of film, video, sound and computer technologies. They should demonstrate the ability to analyze and troubleshoot technical problems and have excellent customer service and time management skills as they will be responsible for ensuring high-quality service as they assist our faculty and students with a variety of services.

Under the general supervision of management, the Film/Video technician will support the day-to-day operation of the Film/Video technical facility. They join a team committed to fostering a safe, innovative, and robust culture of creating, and will provide students with practical technical support that will guide their practice in and beyond their time at Pratt.

Position Duties:

  • Provide technical guidance and support for faculty and students working or teaching in the studios, suites and classrooms. Prepare rooms for instructors each week prior to class (A/V playback systems, editing suites, studios.). Prepare and operate projector/media server for screenings and class presentations.

  • Oversee the safe operation, set-up, inspection, maintenance, and basic repair of the facility’s digital, sound, lighting and film equipment.

  • Coordinate the check-in/check-out and reservation process for equipment, labs, studios and suites.

  • Demonstrate proper use of equipment to students when needed.

  • Install and upgrade computer software.

  • Oversee inventory, secure price quotes, advise on new purchases, and order supplies as needed.

  • Notify supervisor and send out equipment for repairs as needed.

SALARY is competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications. The salary range for this position is $56,000 – $57,800. The position will be onsite 5 days/wk.

This is a Local 153 Grade 103 Union Position.
