Job contextASML’s Trade Data Management team is responsible for providing accurate and consistent product classifications used in our transactions to ensure compliance with Customs and Export Control regulations. We maintain trade preference statuses to benefit from Free Trade Agreements and screen our business partners for compliance with sanctioned party lists. We also screen all transactions globally for compliance with export licenses.In our work, we closely collaborate with experts in the Export Control & Sanctions team within Legal & Compliance, the Customs Affairs team within Tax & Customs, the technical experts involved in technology, software and product development, as well as colleagues involved in the operational processes of shipping products and filing customs declarations.We are looking for an expert in Export Control classification that wants to broaden their horizon by stepping into our high-tech world.Role and responsibilitiesAs an Export Control Classification Expert, your primary responsibility will be to increase the quality of export control classifications for our entire base of products, software and technology. These classifications are determined based on functionality and key characteristics of the products, software and technology. It is therefore important that you have a good understanding of technological concepts.Your responsibilities will include:

  • Performing export control classifications for our entire range of products and parts thereof, ensuring proper substantiation of these classifications.
  • Providing guidance to team members on proper classification of products and alignment with our Export Control & Sanctions team on these classification guidelines.
  • Maintaining our control framework regarding the risks for incorrect and late classification and execution of controls related to these risks.
  • Maintaining and improving the master classification database.
  • Identifying and implementing improvements that will smoothen our processes and increase compliance.

You are also expected to:

  • Establish good working relationships at various levels with relevant departments within ASML (for example Development & Engineering).
  • Collaborate and advise internal stakeholders on core issues of customs & export control classification and licensing to ensure compliance.
  • Function as the go to person in case of classification related questions from the authorities or internal stakeholders.

Education and experienceWe are looking for candidates with at least a Master degree in a technical field like (Applied) Physics, Mechatronics, Electronics or comparable, or Law, Compliance or Auditing or comparable. Besides the educational background we expect you to have:

  • 5-7 years work experience in an Export Control classification role in a technical company.
  • Knowledge and experience with the EU and U.S. export laws and regulations.
  • Experience with and understanding of multicultural and multidisciplinary environments.

If you have any of the below experiences, you will have an advantage over other candidates:

  • Relevant work experience in the semiconductor business.
  • Experience in audit or advisory/consulting in the field of risk management and/or internal control.

We have a remote working policy that allows for working from home part-time.This position requires access to controlled technology, as defined in the Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. § 730, et seq.).
