Job description

We have an exciting Grade 7 Senior Sponsorship role in Euston Directorate which is part of five Directorates within the wider Major Rail Projects Group (MRPG). You will be leading the Department’s sponsorship of one of the largest and most complex infrastructure projects in the country. 

We are entering a critical phase with key decisions required on transport and development requirements, funding and delivery model in the coming months. This position will involve working collaboratively across organisational boundaries to ensure that the programme is executed to deliver the Government’s vision for Euston. These include legal, commercial and senior officials across the Department, Euston delivery partners, Network Rail and Other Government Departments.

The role provides a fantastic opportunity to use and develop your skills and experience in leadership, partnership working and project delivery.

Responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

  • Leading the Euston Directorate’s Communications and Stakeholder Engagement function.
  • Developing and maintaining the Directorate’s overall strategy for communications and stakeholder engagement.
  • Representing the Department at internal and external communications and stakeholder engagement groups.
  • Oversight (via task management of HEO Programme Coordinator) of the Communications Forward Look, correspondence, PQs, lines to take, cross-cutting briefings for DfT Ministers/senior officials.
  • Preparations for key Euston governance and stakeholder engagement groups, including Euston Partnership Board.
  • Leading the Department’s sponsorship of The Euston Partnership’s Communications and Stakeholder Engagement team and Customer Experience and Operations team.
  • Leading coordination and delivery of key Euston strategic governance groups, including the Euston Quarter Ministerial Task Force and Euston Quarter Steering Group, working closely with DfT and OGD Private Offices and senior officials as required.
  • Leading on the procurement activities for the Euston Directorate, management of the legal advice contract and coordination of the Directorate’s legal advice requirements, working across the Directorate and with DfT Legal Advisors and Group Commercial colleagues as required.
  • Leading coordination of Euston-related Public Accounts Committee and National Audit Office recommendations and reporting.

Person specification

This wide-ranging post will require a mix of project delivery, policy and people management skills. 

  • You will have excellent interpersonal and stakeholder management skills and can develop strong networks and positive, collaborative relationships at both working and senior levels within DfT, with Euston delivery partners and with wider stakeholders.
  • You thrive in complex multi-stakeholder environments where competing priorities must be balanced and are confident in providing constructive challenge where necessary to ensure the best outcomes are delivered.
  • You have excellent written and verbal communication skills, which you deploy to provide high quality advice and briefing to Ministers, the senior leadership team, internal Boards and wider stakeholders.
  • You will use strong and dynamic leadership to create a strong sense of purpose and influence those around you.

Additional information:

You will have the option to be based in our London office attracting the London salary, or in Leeds or Birmingham attracting the National salary. If based in Leeds or Birmingham, occasional travel to our London office will be required for key meetings and team events.

A minimum 60% of your working time should be spent at your principal workplace, although requirements to attend other locations for official business, or carry out detached duty in another DfT workplace, will also count towards this level of attendance. Occasional travel to other DfT offices will be required.
