Temporary Engineer in the Ocean Altimetry Programme

EUMETSAT is Europe’s meteorological satellite agency – monitoring the weather and climate from space – 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

EUMETSAT has an open vacancy for a Temporary Engineer in the Ocean Altimetry Programme.

Duties

For the temporary support, the following tasks have been identified:

  • Develop and maintain the system requirements and support the definition of the corresponding satellite, instrument and ground segment requirements for new altimetry missions (S-6C and S-6 NG Topo);
  • Produce necessary design documentation, analyses and trade-offs and present them in major programme reviews such as Preliminary Requirements Review (PRR), system Requirements Review (RR) and system Preliminary Design Review (PDR);
  • Define end to end system functional chains, and contribute to the production of any related Interface Requirements Document (IRDs) / Interface Control Document (ICDs), as well as to the development of operations concepts and scenarios;
  • Develop and maintain a System Engineering Plan
  • Coordinate the system and ground segment modelling and contribute to the Model-based system engineering (MBSE) for future altimetry missions.
  • Contribute to the definition of the PUS services of future altimetry missions.

QUALIFICATIONS

A university degree in a relevant discipline.

LANGUAGES

Candidates must be able to work effectively in English.

Skills and Experience

  • Proven experience in Model-based system engineering (MBSE) methodology and development process of EO Space Missions following the ECSS standards;
  • Proven experience in requirements engineering and in requirements verification control using DOORS;
  • Knowledge of ECSS PUS and spacecraft on-board procedure standards (e.g. CFDP);
  • Experience with procurement of complex engineering systems and management of technical support contracts would be an advantage;
  • Experience with IVV would be an advantage;
  • Independent thinking, ability to develop abstract concepts and to handle uncertainly and ambiguity in complex solution trade-offs and optimization;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a proven ability to work as part of a team.

Employment Conditions

The Temporary Engineer in the Ocean Altimetry Programme will work on a full-time basis. The role will be based at the EUMETSAT headquarters in Darmstadt, Germany. Remote working will not be possible.

Interviews for this position will be held in English, followed by a work-related assessment also in English.

NB This is NOT a staff role. The successful candidate would be employed through a temp agency for the duration of the contract. Agency employment conditions will apply. Applicants will need to have the right to work in Germany. Visa or work permit support will not be provided.

The target start date is as soon as possible for 18 months.

The successful candidate will be reporting to Ocean Altimetry Programme Manager.
