Royal HaskoningDHV

Job description

With society’s increasing attention to hazardous substances in our environment, work environment and food, the pressure of laws and regulations to achieve a sustainable industry is also increasing. The EU has set ambitious goals in the “chemicals strategy for sustainability, towards a toxic-free environment”. As an Environmental Risk Assessment expert, you will support the industry to make the production and use of chemicals safer and circular. Are you curious about the impact you can have? Read on!What You Do as an Environmental Risk Assessment ExpertAs an Environmental Risk Assessment Expert, you assess substance safety according to European and national legislation. You evaluate the hazards, exposure and risks of substances based on empirical and modelling information. This deals with distribution and behaviour of substances in the environmental compartments and the risks involved with emissions. This helps determine which substances can be used safely under which conditions. In addition, you identify potential problems with substances and/or degradation products, for example also for emerging substances and/or microplastics. Together with colleagues specialized in (eco)toxicology and risk assessment, you document these findings in, for example, a REACH registration dossier or a dossier for the recovery of substances from waste. Your activities include:

  • Guiding external laboratories in conducting tests and analyses, interpreting, and reviewing reports for clients.
  • Mastering and using various techniques to predict the functionality and reactivity of substances (e.g., OECD toolbox or other predictive techniques, including read-across).
  • Within the framework of EU REACH legislation, determining the legal obligations our clients have based on your experiences, guidance, and interpretation. You also assist clients in exploring alternatives for highly concerning substances (substitution).
  • Coaching and mentoring junior colleagues, safeguarding the quality of deliverables for clients.
  • Maintaining and developing client relationships, organizing, and responding to client inquiries.

To provide the right solutions for our clients, it’s essential to immerse yourself in their world and be curious. It is also important to explore how digitization can make our services and products better and more innovative.Where You’ll WorkRoyal HaskoningDHV has been around for over 140 years.
