WE ARE

Unit G2 is the unit within DG Regional and Urban Policy responsible for implementing cohesion
policy in Portugal and Spain. Our mission is to ensure an optimal impact of ERDF, Cohesion Fund and
Just Transition Fund programmes in Portugal and Spain, to help them reduce economic, social and
territorial disparities, catch up with EU standards in wealth, employment and quality of life and
contribute to a stronger EU internal market. The work includes, among others, contribution to policy
and strategy development in the member states concerned, negotiation of funding programmes,
monitoring of implementation progress and preparation of briefings for the Executive Vice-president
and the hierarchy. The unit is composed of 26 staff of different nationalities. Team members are
highly competent and motivated.

WE PROPOSE

We are proposing a Programme Assistant in a skilful, dynamic and friendly team to deliver cohesion
policy in the team in Spain or Portugal. In this context, we are looking for an assistant that is ready
to take the responsibility to assist in the management of one or more funding programmes for the
2014-2020 and 2021-2027 periods in Spain or Portugal. The new colleague will also have the
opportunity to be involved in the works of at least one of the thematic matrices set up in DG REGIO
(i.e. Smarter Europe, Greener Europe, Connected Europe, etc). The detailed job description is

WE LOOK FOR

The successful candidate will be dynamic and motivated, with a well-structured approach to work.
They should have some knowledge about how Cohesion policy works and be ready to get familiar
within short time with the related financial and legal procedures. The job requires a mix of good

programme and project management skills, as well as good knowledge and understanding of both
cohesion policy and the main Union policies relevant to cohesion policy (I.e. employment, research,
climate, transport, energy, housing, etc.). Besides, the jobholder should have a good understanding
of the administrative and organisational set up of the country, allowing them to critically assess
policy decisions in the MS, challenge the authorities and make operational proposals to better
deliver on economic, social and territorial cohesion. To this end, the jobholder should also have good
representation and communication skills, be an excellent team player and be able to adapt flexibly
to changing environments. The person will work under the direct responsibility of the team leader
for Spain or Portugal.

An excellent command of Spanish or Portugues and English is required. French is an additional asset.
