The vacancy is within Unit ‘Reactor Safety and Components’ which focuses on reactor safety analysis, including emergency preparedness and cutting edge-materials research of reactors components to support establishment and promotion of high safety standards. Associated are the development of nuclear codes, standards and procedures through research on structural materials, Structure System and Components integrity assessment and effects of ageing.

WE PROPOSE

Situated within the “Materials Science for Engineering” sector of the Unit Reactor Safety and Components, the role ensures dynamic interaction across the unit’s sectors, creating fertile ground for interdisciplinary collaboration. Responsibilities include preparing and executing experiments in AMALIA, planning and implementing procurement and maintenance, and ensuring compliance with stringent safety and environmental protocols. Equivalent activities to support LILLA will be required as needed. Participation in audits ensures keeping high operational safety, health and environmental standards. Inclusion in the standby duty team offers a pivotal role in emergency response, safeguarding the facility’s operations.

The tasks are incompatible with telework and require on-site presence exceeding the mandatory two days per week (more than 40% of the time). However, there is a possibility for flexible teleworking. WE LOOK FOR

We are looking for a a dynamic candidate for the role of Laboratory Technician at AMALIA and for delivering support to LILLA, as needed, showcasing adaptability across EMMA’s research facilities.

The successful candidate possesses a one-year experience in laboratory work. The desired competence is on testing of corrosion and environmentally assisted cracking of metallic alloys under controlled temperature, pressure, and environments’ chemistry. The new colleague will be able to setup and execute experiments, prepare and calibrate test devices, conduct tests, and make accurate reporting of data. Regular inspections of test facilities and devices, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations, performing minor repairs, adapting equipment to meet new testing conditions, and procuring necessary consumables, spare parts, test devices, and service contracts are further knowledges desired.

As part of the standby duty team, the candidate will also contribute on a rotational basis schedule to promptly address emergencies and maintain laboratory safety. There is a potential requirement for work to be performed outside of standard working hours.

The successful candidate should possess a technical education in mechanical or electrical engineering or demonstrate competence in the mechanical and corrosion testing of metallic alloys and steels. Experience in a similar materials testing laboratory is desirable. Proficiency in nuclear science and technology, along with experience in procurement and contract management, would be an asset.

Proficiency in spoken and written English is essential, and a good knowledge of another official EU language is required.
