Devon Wildlife Trust

Would you like to play a pivotal role in securing the future of one of the UK’s most wildlife
rich landscapes?

In this role you will help drive nature recovery at the landscape scale by influencing and
working with landowners in East Dartmoor.

Devon Wildlife Trust (DWT) is Devon’s leading wildlife conservation charity, with over 36,000
members, 350 regular volunteers, 120 staff and 63 nature reserves. We are one of the larger
locally based organisations that collectively make up The Wildlife Trusts. DWT has pioneered
the reintroduction of beavers in England and the restoration of internationally rare habitats
like Culm Grassland.

A diverse partnership has successfully secured development phase funding for a Landscape
Recovery Area (LRA) project in East Dartmoor, nested within the combined Becka, Bovey and Wray
catchments. You’ll be working in a landscape that already has some of the best quality, best
connected wildlife habitat in the South West. Its landscape mosaic encompasses tors, moors,
mires and heaths, together with species-rich grasslands and arguably its greatest wildlife
asset of all, the wooded valleys.

This post will play a pivotal role in the development of the Land Management Plan for the East
Dartmoor LRA, working collaboratively with farmers, commoners, and landowners to agree a
20-year implementation plan. The role is exciting and diverse with outputs ranging from
co-creating farm and common land restoration plans, establishing new landowner clusters and
strategic partnerships, delivering farm cluster workshops, and contributing to science and
evidence projects. Establishing and maintaining stakeholder relationships will be key to this
role alongside the provision of bespoke and reliable land advisory support.

East Dartmoor is a working landscape with a rich cultural heritage. The Landscape Recovery
scheme offers an opportunity to secure alternative support for rural livelihoods and build
landscape resilience. Only through collaborative action and innovation will we be able to
tackle climate change and aid nature’s recovery. Your job will be to find those ‘win-wins’,
where changes to land management practice can provide mutual benefits to the landowner and
wider society. The benefits will be far reaching – ensuring a secure future for a wealth of
threatened species and providing more opportunities to enjoy nature at its best!

In return for your hard work and dedication you’ll enjoy a wide range of benefits including:

  • 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays (increasing to 28 days after 5 years’ service)
  • Agile working arrangements including home working
  • Flexitime system
  • Contributory pension scheme (conditions apply)
  • Death in Service cover
  • Access to an Employee Assistance Programme (EAP)
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Training and development opportunities

This is a full-time, fixed term appointment until 30 April 2026, based at Cricklepit Mill.

Interviews are being held on Wednesday 28 August.

We welcome candidates of all backgrounds and abilities who meet the essential criteria for this
role. We are an inclusive organisation that is seeking to involve more diverse audiences in our
work.

DWT is committed to the principle of equal opportunity in employment.
