Job description

Job Description:Are you passionate about wind turbine aerodynamics for wind turbine rotors? Imagine being part of a dynamic team; a group of highly skilled researchers supported by cutting-edge computational tools and state-of-the-art test facilities. At DTU Wind and Energy Systems, this dream becomes reality. You will join a cross-disciplinary, international team working on developing experimental and numerical methods for wind turbine aerodynamics with funding from national and international research projects. Also, the newest research will be applied together with leading manufacturers within the wind turbine industry.Responsibilities and qualifications
The research field of the position is focused on research in aerodynamic design of wind turbine rotors. The work for the researcher has emphasis on the development of aerodynamic models for wind turbine rotors and methods to optimize the rotors. In particular, you will work with performance of airfoils and rotors and the optimization of them. You will have the opportunity to join a cross-disciplinary, international team working on developing experimental and numerical methods for wind turbine aerodynamics and aeroacoustics. The particular areas of responsibilities include:

  • Development and validation of aerodynamic modelling of wind turbine airfoils and rotors
  • Development of optimization tools for aerodynamic design of wind turbine airfoils and rotors
  • Design and optimization of wind turbine airfoils and rotors
  • Development of CFD-based adjoint solvers for shape optimization
  • It is required that key research results are disseminated in peer reviewed journal papers and presented at scientific conferences
  • Most of the work will be done in nationally and internationally funded research projects and apply the newest research together with leading manufacturers within the wind turbine industry.

You should have the following qualifications:

  • A strong background in aerodynamics for wind turbine rotors
  • Experience with Computational Fluid Dynamics, Blade Element Momentum methods and numerical optimization methods
  • Advanced programming skills in FOTRAN, Python or equivalent
  • Preferably experience in parallel coding using MPI (Message Passing Interface)
  • Experience in coupling optimization workflows using for instance OpenMDAO
  • Experience with wind turbine airfoils and rotor design
  • Ability to work independently towards the research goals and deliverables
  • Ability to pro-actively collaborate and coordinate with other researchers
  • Fluency in communicating, reading and writing English.

You must contribute to the teaching of courses. DTU employs two working languages: Danish and English.
